Please help......Originb2.....

Hi all,
can anyone help please.
I have just installed a Origin b2 into our mini.
Checked and double checked all the wiring, but
it still will not pick up a satellite position......
Anyone got any ideas why this might be happening???
Cheers,
Andy.

Is it a new unit as I had this problem? Unfortunately there are a lot of these that simply do not work and you only realise when you cannot get a satellite lock. I had to send mine back to origin to be fixed.

The only other possibility is if you have a heated front windscreen as this may affect the satellite lock. The helpdesk suggests moving the GPS antenna around to see if you get a signal. Try it on the roof. When it locks on it takes literally seconds so you will know very soon if its working or not.

I've got a b2 in my Cooper, with heated screen. No problems with satellite lock at all, but the unit can take a long time to acquire a signal the first time it is installed and fired up, 10-15 minutes isn't unusual. Also, where are you testing out the system? When my car is sitting in the driveway, it obviously doesn't get a good 'view' of satellites and struggles to pick up enough satellites, It's ok once I am travelling. When switched on, the satellite display with individual signal strength bars should be visible and the unit will beep until it gets a good satellite lock. How many satellites are you getting? is the signal strength high?

I don't know how you installed yours, but I put the unit on top of the dash right in front of the A-pillar. All of the extra wiring can be hidden away behind the plastic cover at the end of the dash.

Cheers

Being the organised person I am I tested my Origin before I installed it, just to make sure it was ok before spending loads of time putting it in only to have to take it out again. It worked fine, found the satellites no problem. It sat around in its box for around a month. Then I installed it, spent ages making sure you couldn't see ANY of the wires, I was very proud in the finish.
Then I turned it on. It took HOURS to find the satellites, I had to keep restarting it as it has an auto power off if you don't drive anywhere for 15 mins or so. I thought I must have damaged the wires whilst hiding them or something.
Now it runs fine. If i leave the car over night it takes about 5 mins to log on when I drive off.... then for the rest of the day it logs on almost immediately.

I like marrsbar tested mine before the install, all worked fine. Got a sat lock within 2/3 minutes.

When I installed it into the car, I hadn't pushed the Ariel connection in far enough and couldn't get sat lock, took me a while to figure this out, just gave it a good hard push together and all been ok since then.
See my personal gallery for my install pictures.
fitted the Ariel out side the car due to heated windscreen, have since found out from others who have fitted the Ariel inside they have no problems........ Oh well!, live and learn.

Good luck sorting the problem out
