| Hulk. | Speedo Ring Removal Help? A good friend of mine paints cars for a dealership nearby and i saw that a guy on mini2 had his speedo ring, the tach ring and the rings next to the speedo painted body color. I want to do this really badly and i was told that i just need to have the rings off and i can have them painted. Question is, how do i remove those? Do i just pull up on them really hard and hope they come off, do i twist them or what? Thanks, Scott |

Offline | Can we confirm that the speedo ring "twists off" please. I might "have" to do this soon too, and I tried it, and my speedo ring wouldn't budge?! Which way should I be twisting? Any top tips? |

Offline | Yeas, thanks Rich. I don't want to destroy (or damage) anything in the process though. Anyone with any sensible ideas or experience want to chime in, feel free. ![]() |

Offline | I've thought about using strong tape stuck to the dial then pulling that from two directions to twist the ring? Not sure if the stuff will retrofit, no reason why not, apart from the rear cup holder ring (as that's now bigger). However, if MINI will offer it as a retro fit part is another matter. |

Offline | But now it's been said to twist, I'd be scared to break something pulling it! Can anyone else say for 100% certain? I've twisted and pulled everything else off, but the speedo ring I cant twist off, and I've been afraid to pull. I don't even have anything to replace them with yet, but I'd like to know all the same?! ![]() |

Offline | Yikes!! It's just the ring alone I want off, I've managed to get the two blower rings off, but not the speedo. I know others have done this to paint their trim. ![]() |

Offline | OK, I've tried pulling, and I've tried twising. My fingertips are sore, and the speedo ring is still in place. If I knew for sure if we were supposed to twist or pull I might be more confident to pull or twist harder?! Anyone want to help us out here? Thanks again! Paul |

Offline | The only way I see to get the Speedo ring off is to remove the entire fascia section like snoopy did. There are 3 screws to remove (2-top and 1-btm) and a swift yank needed to break 4 spring clips loose. The only thing you need to watch is both sides of the Speedo section, underlap the ones of either side. So you have to watch when reinstalling to get the seam on each side under the adjacent section. On the back side of the Speedo ring there are six clips spread evenly around the perimeter. But the kicker is that four of them have been hot-melt glued. The good news is the glue is very soft and looks like it would be easy to remove. In addition there is a single forked spring clip at the bottom that needs to be squeezed together to disengage. No way to remove that one from the front, as far as I can tell. |

Offline | Right. Got the little blighter off! (Why I've done this with nothing to put in it's place is beyond me?!). Anyway, I'll post pics later. IN THEORY I think you could just pull it out, once I'd pulled the whole thing apart, I didn't have to do anywork really from behind the ring, I managed to just pull it off, however I think the long way around is safer, and it only took about 15 mins to do. Pics and guidelines to come for anyone else wanting to do this! |
