| Gone Motoring! | Any instructions for the boot installation? I'm trying to decide if I want to do it behind HU or in the boot and route the wire to the front. Reason to do it in the boot is for future addition of SAT radio, or maybe cd changer (doubt I'd need that with an iPod though)... Question for mikeythemini: How thick is the wire to the cradle? I understand they include a long wire for boot install, is that wire thin enough to be able to tuck insides door trims easily? --Andrew |

Offline | The cable they include is quite thick and it may be a bit of a hassle routing it up front. I didn't use the cable, I put the active cradle up high in the boot. Works well for me since I put my laptop bag in the boot every time I get in the car and keeps the iPod out of sight. I am going to have to make a change soon though. I really don't like taking my iPod in and out of the Vaja case, so I am going to order one of the dock cables from Dension when they become available and try to figure out a way to make a cradle that I can just drop the iPod in. I've been thinking about finding one of those mouse holders that stick on the side of a monitor ![]() |

| Gone Motoring! | I just received my icelink v1.1, I think right now we can only get the boot install kit. I'm gonna install it to the MINI tomorrow, any pointers on how to route that (fairly thick) cable from the boot to the HU area would be appreciated! ![]() --Andrew |

| Gone Motoring! | I installed my icelink v1.1 last Saturday, this is the kit that uses the boot pre-wired CD Changer connector instead of the back of the HU. Here's how I did it: disconnect battery Remove the bottom part of the weather stripping on the driver side. Remove the buttom interior trim piece on the drive side, underneadth that you will see a few wires already there. open up steering cover, or parcel shelf if you replaced it with the parcel shelf. run wire from inside the bottom steering cover, down to the fuse box, to the edge of the car, up to the backseat, remove driver-side backseat (just pull it up), fish cable into the boot, with a screwdriver, remove trim pieces in boot, place cable along the edge of the boot, to the passenger side of boot where cd changer pre-wired connector was located. Hook everything up, wrap the converter box with some cloth or inside a sock so it won't rattle when knock against the other stuff in that compartment. mount proclip, try to hide wire as much as possible, hook up icelink to the cable, reconnect battery, test system. re-install trim pieces, most likely you have to pull the plastic thinggies out from the body panels, install them to the trim pieces, and install the trim pieces. re-install weather stripping, close steering cover / parcel shelf. --Andrew |
