Which way do the toggle switches face, vertically or horizontally? It looks like there are raised nubs separating them, is that so? And what do the toggle switches control?

As far as I am aware the toggle switches are verticle, although I have not seen one in the flesh yet.
They are separated by plastic dividers, apparantly this is to meet safety reglautions, so people will not catch themselves or their clothes on the switches.

I'm sure its a bit early to ask this type of question, but What does the button to the left of the speedometer do? Its the button that looks like it has a picture of a speedo on it.

I might guess it's the dimmer control for the instrument panel. I'll make sure to check it out at the New York show in April. Can't wait for that show; haven't seen it in person yet.

As a further interior question, is the stereo a regular DIN size? It looks like it is, though it seems like every new car comes with a silly size to make it harder to replace them. I'd think a Blaupunkt Tokyo (silver face) would look great in there.

I'm afraid I don't know any of these answers! Doh! 8)7

As soon as I get a chance to see an interior, I'll let you know.. but I think the people most likely to see one inside is anyone visiting one of the motorshows that the MINI will be on display at, and there's not one I know of in the UK for a long time!

I think I may be the next one to see one - mid-April at the NYC show.

So, feel free to post any questions before then, and I'll try to get direct answers to them, and post the results. That'd be great if they have brochures at that time, but I'll be happy if they just resolve the joint engine plant mess by then.

I saw the Mini at the Toronto show. I believe it has 6 speakers. 2 in each door plus 2 in the back. That button is for the instrument dimmer. Also there is a really neat touch that they did with the lights. When you turn the lights of the car on all the instrument lights fade in and it is a real nice touch. After sitting in one I was really suprised with the craftsmanship. I went and sat in other cars in it price range and not one seemed to come close. Really nice shifter feel too.

Here's the math: 2 in EACH door (4 total) plus 2 in back makes 6. |o

If you look at the photos, it looks like there's a tweeter by the door lock mechanism, and a woofer down low towards the front of the door panel.
