I have an '04 MC with Harom Kardon. A few months ago I had a speaker replaced as it was distorting.

Now, I'm finding that sometimes, but not always, when the system has been pumping out bangin' R&B choons (ahem) for a while, that these strange, random noises sometimes come out of all speakers, I can only describe it as like loud static or rushing wind. It isn't the music distorting as the sound is independent of the music. I have searched the forum and cannot find a similar problem, I bet when I take it to the dealer it will be having a good day! Anyone know what this might be?

Can you not record the problem (tape, dictation machine on your phone or something) as and when it happens? It's bound to be on best behaviour when you take it in. ***'s law!

When my HK is acting up in the cold (see this thread), noises from button presses and other communications make very audible noises. Does the noise only appear after a while, or only when the system is loud? You shouldn't hear when it is functioning normally and at normal volumes.

Thanks for the replies, the sound occurs when I have been playing music for a while, and only seems to affect certain songs, and though I play music loud it's never at full volume. Some days it is absolutely fine. It's not related to other car functions, just an annoying whooshing.

Recording the noise is a great idea might give it a go in case it's fine on the day I take it in to BMW.
