Thumbs up iTrip - Better than expected

Hey Guys,

I got a Mini iPod for christmas, sort of fed up with hundreds of un labled burnt cd;s in the car. was at a dilema on how to connect it to the car, and wasnt too keen on wires hanging all over the place.

I found an online shop selling them in the UK, while i was waiting my friend got one for his normal iPod. Took ages to set up and seemed really complicated, and i wasnt impressed with the sound quality. This was in a Saab, it sounded worse than an FM station. I was kicking myself now for ordering one.

Mine arrived yesterday, installed it onto the iPod, went out to the car, inthe dark and rain. Found an empty station with just static and configured the iPod to transmit on that frequency, the static on the radio suddenly cut out. Thinking to myself "geez that was too easy" stated playing an album.

The sound quality was nothing short of amazing, the sound was crisp and pure, i woudnt be able to tell the differnce between the iPod broadcast and a CD. I have the Harman Kardon hi-fi, and had the iPods EQ set to dance.

Well worth the money, even tho its not strictly legal. But i suspect the quality could deteriarte as you start to get overlaps of other FM signals.

Just thought id share that with you

Rob

We find it hard to get a decent channel around our local area (not that we use one, officer) but when they work they work well. We had one for the trip from Southern Spain to the UK in the Convertible, but most of the way we couldn't get it to work as we didn't know how to retune it, very frustrating, especially as it's so easy to tune!

I recently spat the dummy with my iTrip, worked OK but always got interference going under overhead power lines or just general static etc..had fiddled with changing stations for the last 5 months and just couldnt get one that was good all the time.

Got the aux input installed, belkin car charger with built in amplifier and wow..what a difference. Cant beat being hard wired! No i cant change tracks with MFSW but can adjust volume..and if i want to change tracks well i just change them on the ipod.

on the iTrip for the Mini Ipod, you know you can extent the antenna and get much better sound quality. The white sticker on the top of the itrip peels up and you stick the antenna straight up. It is techincally illegal, at least in the states due to FCC regs but whatever.

Ive just found the aerial, (didnt know that was there) and it gives you a bigger range, i was getting 79 feet before the signal started to get scratchy.

it also seems a little less fussy about the calrity of the station with it up, but if you touch the aerial it makes a very strange scretch.

cheers
