Installing the stereo

Hi, I am about to do the installation of the aftermarket stereo myself, however, I found this on Crutchfield that says ...

"Your vehicle is factory-equipped with a special sound system. If you replace your factory radio, you will need to bypass your factory amplifier by running new speaker wires from the radio to each speaker"

for 2005 Cooper S with the Clarion 845 I have purchased. Is that true that I need to bypass the factory amplifier? I thought I just need to hook up the stereo with the installation harness and plug it to the stock adapter. Will that work?

Thanks.

Do you have the Harman Kardon upgrade? If you do, you will have problems with an aftermarket install. Otherwise, there should be no issues ...

I have no HK and no navi., so by connecting to the installation harness should be ok, right?

Yes - be sure to have an adaptor harness; it plugs in to the stock MINI wiring and then you connect the aftermarket HU to that. You will also need an adaptor for the antenna, and a fascia adaptor.
It gets a bit cramped behind the HU, but it works:

(all my adaptors came from MikeyTheMinis web site)
