United-States Please help me with my Nav woes!!!

Hello all:

Been a while since my last post. I FINALLY GOT MY S YESTERDAY! So yeah...I also got the Nav system.

I live here in Germany, and am curious as to what is wrong with my Nav. I have a US Spec Mini, and my Nav system seems to cover ALL of Germany.

The problem lies outside of Germany. When I want to go someplace like Switzerland or the Netherlands, I get plenty of city choices, but almost NO street choices. Streets that I know exist (since relatives live there) are no available on my Nav.

Do I need to upgrade to a better version of the disc? I haven't looked inside the drive to see what disc I have. Do I have to buy a Switzerland DVD? Please help! I have a trip there on Friday and I realy would not like to get lost!! Isn't there a DVD that covers almost all of Western Europe in detail??

Thanks all,

Joshua

Sounds as though you are running a Germany CD, which will include all main roads in Europe, but only all the roads in Germany.

What you need is a 2005-1 Euro DVD nav disc, which covers all of Europe.

How old is your car? New cars in the UK now get a DVD disc, but that might not apply in other European countries. If it's prior to March 03 you won't be able to run a DVD disc as the drive is CD only. Anything between March 03 and present can run a DVD disc.

United-States Hmmm...

Hi:

Thanks for the reply. I am not sure as to what disc I have, but I just got my '05 Mini two days ago. I will check, but it sounds like I need the DVD. Thanks for the help again. I will look tomorrow and check what I am using.

Thumbs down Update!

Just a quick update to my situation:

Guess what? I opened up my Nav drive to find an unlabeled, CD-R COPY of the Germany Nav Map CD. Can you believe that? I called the dealer and my salesperson didn't claim to "know" that the Mini's can take the DVD Nav discs. I also specifically requested when I ordered my S that I wanted to have the '05 Europe DVD. Yeah, great...she's getting a very unpleasent visit from me tomorrow with CD-R in hand. I'll also be damned if they make me pay the 240 EUR that the DVD costs.

Has anyone else experienced this kind of thing? More to come over the weekend.

Goodness, that is amazing! Did the dealer really think you would never check?

Any update on this...?

Did you get a new Germany DVD? Or a European one? Did you make a big fuss? Any goodwill presents?

Angry Loading the Shotgun....

So...

I stop by the dealer this weekend, walking in with CD-R in hand. My saleswoman explained that the US Mini's only come with a US CD. So to compensate (since I am stationed in Germany), they copied the German CD so they wouldn't have to charge me for it. I then explained to her that plenty of my Mini2 friends receive DVD's with their UK production Mini's.

So after lots of back and forth discussion, I left the dealer empty handed. (The CD-R that was still in my hand didn't count!). They told me if I want the Europe DVD, I will have to pay 240EUR. Yeah, I don't think so. Can you say, EBAY??!?!?!?!?!?!

Thanks for the replies everyone...I'm sure there will be more stories to come. That being said, does anyone know for sure that I was supposed to get the Europe DVD? Is there maybe an email for Mini that I can write to about this? Thanks again everyone.

Joshua,

The 2005-1 Europe DVD is all over eMule (eDonkey) now. Thus, just go grab a copy of it from there. MINI/BMW/NavTeq has screwed me over so many times when it comes to the map data disc that I'll never pay a penny for another one, and from the sound of it, you shouldn't either (not even off of eBay).

BTW, the BMW & MINI nav data discs are exactly the same. Thus, just search for/download the BMW version and it will work just fine in your MINI's nav system.
