MP3 files renamed WMV by $%&&£# Windows.

This isn't directly a Mini problem as such but having bought some mp3 files I moved
them before burning them. Windows XP kindly renamed them all wmv files . I
couldn't get them to play in the Mini so renamed them back to mp3 files and that's
screwed up the licensing . Any ideas on a remedy or even better how to stop
Windows screwing up any future songs?

Some people are like a Slinky ........ not really good for anything, but you still can't help
but smile when you shove them down the stairs

yes use the latest realplayer. it seems to be much better than the current windows. windows now require even more money so you can buy a liscence where as realplayer will let you convery to mp3 for free.

If all goes well soon to have a GTT 210bhp !!!!!

Where did you get your MP3s? If they are good old-fashioned MP3s, even XP shouldn't have messed with them. Even if it did, changing the extension shouldn't mess with the licensing, since there shouldn't be any.
If they are one of the right-protected formats you get from iTunes or someone else, that's your problem...
In that case you wouldn't actually have MP3s, you would have something else (iTunes uses AAC) which won't play in the MINI CD player without being reencoded as MP3s.

Man, Army of Darkness rocks

Anyway, if you get iTunes for Windows, you can choose what to record them in - just select mp3 in the preferences. It won't work for the DRM'd bought ones over the web, but stuff e.g. off a CD will be fine.

As for RealPlayer, you're insane if you use that - it's marginally better than Creative's Jukebox, but not by much. I suspect you'll still find WinAmp is one of the best out there, although since I use a Mac and a Windows PC over my Airport network, I use iTunes all the time now to be able to stream to any stereo in the house so have no reason to use WinAmp. I'd try that first if I were you.

Initially I had a similar problem using my CD burning software. I was specifying that I was burning a 'music CD', the software then automatically converted the mp3's to a format which would play on a CD player (wav, cda, etc). I therefore find that you must specifiy that you want to burn a 'data CD', the software will just burn the data 'as is' and maintian the mp3 format.

If this isn't an option in XP then download one of the many free CD burning apps from the net.

Huh?? ive never heard of such a problem....download the tracks as MP3 and burn them to cd with something like Nero. I've never ever had a problem... and on Nero you can boost the Bass
