Ipod ice-link or wireless?

Was just given an Ipod from my dogs for Mother's Day and would love to be able to hear my stuff in my car so I've been looking all over for the best products to do this. I've found Ice-Link, but this reminds me too much of what we went through when hooking up the old XM receiver and STILL had bad reception because the receiver wasn't all that great (Roadie) and where we live, there aren't a whole lot of free signals to chose from. Plus, I don't like having wires hanging out the side. I think it detracts the beauty of the car ('05 MCS). I'm thinking of purchasing the Monster I-Car Play thing instead, since it all seems to rely on whether or not you're able to get a free signal and I'm not all that interested in removing the head unit to try to shove a bunch of new wires back there. The only other threads I've found on Mini2 seem to be discussing the Ice-Link, but I'd really like some opinions on this wireless thing (obviously, I'm not a techie!). Any advice offered is greatly appreciated .

I brought myself one of those FM transmitter things that plug in the top of the iPod and was sooo dissapointed I never used it again....sounded like a pirate radio station on a bad day! I personally would advise a direct connection via a wire or if you have a tape deck one of the units that pushes in the tape deck will provide a far better solution quality wise than the FM transmitter can....although a wire direct into the rear of the unit (BMW/MINI can fit it) is the best option. Hope this helps....Dan

The IceLink gets you fine quality, as its hardwired, so no FM frequencies need to be found and there's no interferences. Fitting is not hard and any third party electrics place would be able to do it in 30 mins. The install can be as visible or tidy as you like. Mine runs from the bacl of the stereo and sits out of sight under the steering wheel. You can't see a thing. Perfect.

There are a number of alternatives to the itrip

ICE link plus/mini adapter (£150-£200 fitted)
Aux in (£40)
Cassette adaptor
itrip/belkin etc

The best that can be said about the itrip is that it usually works but is prone to interference. Audio quality is poor, it is fragile and shortens battery life.
The ice link and mini adapter can be completely out of sight and sound quality is better that playing the same MP3 on an MP3 CD.

Of course this question should be in "interior and ICE" where many people have asked the same question in the past!

Here is my personal experience... I have an iPod mini and bought the iTrip.
I used it a couple times and the quality was so bad, at times I would pick up other people transmitting at the same frequencey.

But then I did a random search to see if I could "hack" the itrip. Turns out there is an antenna hidden within the itrip. I just peeled the top sticker back and then pulled the antenna up. My reception was ten times better . Now other people pick up my iPod.

Goonies never say die!

There's absolutely no comparison in quality - you should go with a wired interface (and by wired I don't mean a tape adapter). I just installed the IceLink in my car, ran the wire up behind the glove box and in through the little hole (there's a plastic cover you pop off - I cut a notch in the side for the wire and put the plastic cover back on.

No visible wires, no visible iPod - just top notch music...and lots of it!

Really? That's odd. I've looked all over "Interior and Ice" and can't find one mention of the Monster ICarPlay Wireless system, which is what I was hoping for some comments on which is why I put the thread in the general section where more people tend to be lurking. I even ran a search for Monster ICarPlay. Of course I don't want to take up space where a "no one waves at me" thread could be. Sorry.

Exactly my point (though I'm sure you're being sarcastic)!
