IceLink + ID3 tag problem: What software is your radio running?

Okay, my 10/04 build date '05 MINI will not display ID3 tags on the radio. It seems there may be a difference in software on some of the '05 radios that is causing this. Can you all do me a favor and, if you have an '05 MINI, respond back with the software version your radio has installed and whether or not you have been successful in getting the radio to display ID3 tag info with your Ice link Plus? Here's how you do it:

1. Turn your radio off then back on.
2. Press the "M" button at the bottom left of the radio and hold for about 10 seconds until your serial number comes up on the display. In my case it displayed "SN A0927160"
3. Press the far bottom right button on the radio once to scroll to the next item which, in my case, displayed "SV 38-04 47" This is your software version, according to Chase at Dension.

This info may prove helpful in getting MINI to update software versions for those of us who cannot get the Dension firmware update to work.

Thanks, Rob

Even then, not everyone's getting it to work as they want. Seems things are a little ropey with the firmware.

This is why I am asking people to do a quick check of their radio's software version and whether they've gotten ID3tags to work. To confirm whether there may be any correlation between radio software version and whether ID3 tags work for them. If two people have the same radio software and one gets ID3 to work and the other doesn't, then it is likely Dension's firmware. If not, maybe there's a way to get MINI to release the software to those of us who want it and MAYBE that fixes the issue.

My reason for getting an Ipod adapter in the first place, Dension's specifically, was so I could leave the Ipod in the glove box out of sight and know what I was searching. Even with one of the docking stations and the Ipod removed from it when you leave your car, thieves will know you have an Ipod and break in to find it.

This isn't some evil trick to get me to "reset" my radio and thus kill my IceLink HU text is it?

I'm wary about messing with the delicate balance that is having somehow gotten my IceLink to display text as it is promised to do.

I'm not bitter that yours works and mine doesn't. I assure you doing this will just pull up info and subsequent times you press the far bottom right button will allow you access to some features that don't really do anything. Nothing bad will happen.

My August 04 build works with ID3 tags. I did post this finding in the other thread, but there are over a 1000 posts in there now.

Are you in England? Is there anything different about your radio there? Can you check your radio's software version? Thanks, Rob

Early Nov. 04 build, MCSC, H/K (no nav) SV 41-04-47

Unknown ID3 tag support (probably not )

So far, it would appear that radios with SV in the "04" range do not have ID3 tag suppor, while those with "05" do...

II think it's a great idea that we do this, maybe itr will help Dension work ona version that's compatible with earlier radios. There sure seems to be a market for it.

Sorry for no reply yet as to my working August 04 build software version. I've done my ankle in today, so I'll limp down to the car in the morning and have a look.

You're nuts if you think I'm going to pull my radio again to read the label - took me 2 hours to get it in and out last time, and I scratched my beautiful red dash in the process...

(small, underneath the curved edge, and not noticeable, but I know it's there... )

OK, I've been out to check the numbers on my stereo (August 04 build that does do text). I don't have time to pull the unit today, so they are only the numbers displayed on the hidden menu.

SN V6011907
SV 30-04 440

Hope this helps a bit

Interesting that yours has 3 digits at the end where the US versions have two.

I have forwarded this link and the one I set up on NAM to Chase at Dension tech support so he can see all of these. Hopefully it wil help them work with MINI on a resolution. I have also called 866-ASK-MINI and e-mailed them regarding the software version though I have gotten no responses.
