Offline | Because the 'visibility pack' is still not available I am thinking about the possibility of fitting a 3rd party auto dimming rearview mirror. I have one in my existing car and could transfer it. It only needs a 12 volt supply, so I wonder if it could be tapped into the wiring somewhere - preferrably in the roof lining area. Not sure if the fittings on the windscreen for mounting mirrors are universal? Anybody tried this? Last edited by 3GGG : Jun 19th, 2002 at 10:25 AM. |

Offline | mirror The mirror fits to the roof through the headliner rather than to the screen itself. It may be possible to use the original mirror to forge a bracket for your new one. Power sources could be drawn from the sunvisors or interior light and maybe the clock if you know your electrics. With a few folds and a bit of sticky tape you could also turn your warranty into a temporary ashtray. ![]() |

Offline | Sounds like a good idea to me. The fact that it screws to the body will make the job easier. I have thought about doing the same thing, as I have auto dim mirrors on my other car. With the height of the mini, that would relieve some of the glare from cars with jacked up suspensions, or trucks. As for the warranty, in the US, the only warranty that would be affected would be the warranty on the bracket, the headliner, and the mirror itself. If you have laws that are contrary to that, you have my sympathy. Let us know how it works, if you decide to do it. I am going to do it as soon as I find a suitable mirror, and it will cure the "oval mirror" syndrome. I bought it, I paid for it, and it is my car. And I have no awe of service writers, used to be one myself. ![]() ![]() |
