Question Installing Auto AC

I've always been bothered with the fact that I didn't get the auto AC in my MINI, which leads me to my question...

Am I an idiot or is there any way to install automatic AC after your car has already been made? (please be gentle) Any kind of help is appreciated.

It is possible, there's a few threads on here about it. But because of the extreme cost, I can't think of a thread on here where someone actually did this. When not ordered in error, dealers will usually rather order a replacement car or offer lots of free goodies than install the Auto Aircon after the fact.

My friend... Be glad you don't have auto AC... It looks nice with it's cool circular dial and stuff, but it is soooo loud. At least mine is... I seem to remember a lot of people complining about the sound...

The auto a/c adds a coupls of extra sensors, some electric actuators for the ventilation flaps and the new control panel.

Struggling to see how this would make it significantly louder...

It's loud just when you turn the car on, as it tries to get the car cooled down quickly. Exactly the same as if a non-autoAC owner turned the fan to it's highest speed after turning the car on.

Advantage to the autoAC is that it turns it's fan down in a few minutes without intervention.

The retrofit a/c kit is actually to take you from no a/c to auto air con. If you already have a/c you'd be paying for a lot of parts you already have. I have seen one car have the retrofit done though, so someone loves a/c enough to pay for it after build!

I read here before that it was about 2400 in parts and at least 10 hours labour.
