Replacement of Factory H/K stereo for XM

I was at my dealer today, he stated that the current factory installed H/K unit would not display text (song info) from XM, even if I had the dealer instal XM after it arrived from the factory. He said that it had something to do with them having to hook up the XM throught the CD changer. Would I be better off to order the HK system (all the speakers and stuff) then install XM with a new receiver after market to get the text info? If so what are some good OEM replacements that would display text? I just dont understand the whole situation so any comments will really help.

why do you want XM instead of sirius. i had XM in my mini for a year. it is awful. no content. very hard to find any good music. so i traded and now have sirius and i would never want to live without it. sirius has great music, great channels. the two are like night and day. unless you are a closet opie and anthony fan dont get XM. i wish someone would have told me the same a year ago.

I have XM already and love it. Any suggestions on a replacement unit? Or why the factory radio will not display XM text?

The HK system is that - a system. If you plan to replace the head unit, you really should not be ordering the HK upgrade. It is possible to make the HK amp/speakers work with aftermarket HU, but that is a solution for those with no choice - if you know before ordering that you want a different HU, don't order the HK.

If you have the nav system MINI will not sell you the sirius I have Nave and HK and added the XM direct unit and it does display the track info on the head I actualy like XM better as it has BBC workd service radio and old time radio which I listen to most of the time when I am not using my iPod to listen to books I get from audible.com
As far as I know the only change between my HK head from 04 and the 05 is that the 05 head will play MP3 CDs... and both work just fine and display XM track info with the XM Direct unit is the problem your dealer talking about related to the 06?

Xm

I was at the dealer and talking options for when I do order my 06. I told them that I was planning on ordering the factory HK system, but I was going to have them add XM. He said not problem that they do this all the time, then stated the only problem is that it wont display song text, I then said really? and he said yes, I then asked if they installed Sirius if I would still have no text and he said yes, and then commented that it has something to do with the way they connect it through the CD changer wiring.

I know it sounded odd to me too, but another salesperson said yes that that was the way it was. Hum..........

I would really like the factory radio with XM, but text display is very important. So some of you are saying that you are getting XM song text on the factory HK head unit in your 04 and 05s? If this is the case then maybe the sales people dont know what they are talking about?

Comments...
