heated seats--no longer being offered?

I ordered my MINI about 6 months ago, and added heated seats a week or two after I placed my initial order. When my car came in, the seats were unheated. My dealer's rep told me that there's some problem with them (backordered? conflict with wiring?), which is why MINI didn't have them, but I sort of suspect that he just forgot to put the order in. I've been told now that an aftermarket seat might negatively effect the airbag sensor system. I love my MINI, but I'm pretty disappointed, and I think I'm getting the run-around. Does anyone know anything about a problem with the heated seats, and why they wouldn't be factory-installed?

I think your dealer just forgot to put the order in. Heated seats have been an option since the MINI came out as far as I know, and I have never heard of the seat heaters being problematic in any way. It would be extremely unlikely for them to start having problems with them now after all this time. It's not impossible, but just extremely unlikely. Maybe you should call another dealer and ask them about it.

June 2005 Production had it

My MCSCa had it installed and I picked it up July 28th, 2005. Mine was part of the cold weather package for what that's worth. I'd move up the food chain and call the National number and maybe check with another dealer. Sounds like they forgot to me. I guess there's a first time for everything - nudge, nudge, wink. At least mine was just forgetting the bonnet stripes.

i hope they dont intend to charge you an install fee to put the heated seats in. my guess is they dont want to foot that expense them selves.

They're blowing smoke. Insist they install heated seats as you ordered.

Good luck jbucks.

Please keep us posted.

Although it has already been mentioned, I figured it's worth mentioning again that heated seats can be retrofitted, so insist that they fit it.

yes it can be but its very costly I think, even more reason for them to foot the bill

Get the dealer to take care of it because as everyone else said, they are talking nonsense. I picked up my new MINI two weeks ago with heated seat.

You can buy the heaters and switches themselves for around $130.00 (US). Installation I don't know about.

The seat covers require changing too. Very expensive.
