Offline | Auto-dimming rear view mirror aftermarket? Anyone know if the auto-dimming mirror can be added or is it seriously a built-in at the factory? I'm hoping the wiring is just sitting there behind the plastic waiting to plug in a autodimming mirror. I'm not even sure where to find one either, besides the dealer who I haven't asked yet. All the regular mini accessory sites dont seem to have this. I've got a 2005 convertible MC, pre-Jan. It's got auto-lights, rain sensor, garage door opener on the mirror, but missing the auto-dimming mirror which would have come in it automatically in the post-Jan conveinence kit. So the mirror is wired for the garage door. I'm hoping it's just a plug 'n' play for the autodimming mirror. So, anyone know for a fact if this can be done and also where (and how much) to get the aftermarket auto-dimming rear view? Thx |

Offline | At a guess, if you buy the new part from a dealership and fit it, it will work. The auto dimming mirror works whether lights are on or off, so all it needs wiring wise is power - if you have the garage opener remote, there must be power for that so logically it would be the same wiring / connectors. Your dealership should be able to look up the correct part number for '05 mirror with auto dimming and garage remote, and order it - but do not expect it to be cheap! |

Offline | the mirror works from a light sensor built into it, not from if the lights are turned on or off, as it will also dip during daytime and not dip at night with the lights on unless a light hits the sensor ![]() The only problem I have is knowing which one to drive? ![]() |
