The car doesn't have an Alarm, but who listens to them anyway. It does have a Thatcham CAT immobiliser though.

just about the only people to take notice of them are car theives. You try staying cool with an alarm going off..... people do look, but 99.98% of car alarms going off are false alarms....

I think its tight of them not to put one on. Its standard on an S after all...?

Yeah, I was going to say; the alarm is standard on an S, so I'd expect it on the GP, plus it's a pretty desirable car. It can't add that much weight, but then I guess ever gram counts!

Nop

The MINI Cooper S Works with a GP kit.
Does NOT come with the alarm that comes standard on the MCS.
It comes with the standard immobiliser but not the alarm. MINI has confirmed this to the dealers and has issued the part numbers and the (AWs) fitting time (how long it should take the dealer to fit).
Sorry to disappoint you guys but I repeat it does not have an alarm. However, is very easy to get your friendly dealer to fit.

Been looking into this.

The alarm system is completely missing although the car is pre-wired for the kit to be fitted. Basically the dealer has told me its the alarm module, roof sensors and indicator stalk thats required (Retrofit kit). Last time they quoted me it was all in around £400 fitted - for that you can get a tracker system fitted.

Saying that you might get some goodwill from Mini because of how long we have had to wait for the cars..... If you dont ask you dont get.

Or do it yourself, though I can't say for definite if it will apply to the GP exactly...

Just a word of warning. My car started cutting out for a period of time about a year ago. Got so bad I had to call BMW assit.

Useless bloke in a BMW 5 series estate came round to have a look. Plugged his computer into the OBC port, found 'no reported faults'. So, he diagnosed the aftermarket alarm system as 'must be causing it'. It wasnt in my view, however, he said to illiminate it as a possible cause, it would have to be removed (at my expense) to see if the problem went away. Oh, and no, as wires had been spliced etc, it wouldnt be covered by warranty.

Anyway, gremlin went away after a little while, but suffice to say, I wasnt impressed by his attitude.

So think twice before fitting a non standard alarm. It could cause a similar head ache for your warranty.

I must admit, and chastise me if you must, but what exactly is the point of the GP on the road? I just don't get paying a premium for less of a car than a JCW S? Probably just me though as I like my toys and comfort!

Paying premium? You get more bang for buck on a GP than you do on a Works.

Tracker is a waste of money imo. From what I've been told on the whole they're not that hard to find and remove.

How does this effect insuring the GP with no alarm?
