| The Power Cube | A second hand works - waste of money dude. Always 3rd party modding. JCW squeeze you for cash for a product that is under performing. As for the gearbox... I've never heard anything about there being 2 versions of the 6-speed Getrag - any specific details from the dealer would be appreciated. Cheers, CSW. ![]() Too many mods to list, PM me if the cat needs killing... |

Offline | I think your reply is to say the least bad manners, if not down right rude. No reason to slag the guys choice of cars off..... and personally, as you can now pick up a 52 or 53 plate Works for almost identical money to a standard S, I also happen to think your completely wrong.... There are many Works S's out there for £12k now, much what people ask for a high spec standard car..... |

Offline | Here, here... not everyone actually wants to modify their car As far as different gearboxes, I can only assume your dealer is talking about the facelifted version, and you haven't got that one on a '53 plate - and as far as rattling goes, are you sure its the gearbox and not the clutch ![]() | MINIaddiction | | For MIDLANDS Folk in their MINI's | |

Offline | Hi Vinnie, The Cooper S has a 'notchy' gearbox that can be quite a different experience from other cars, however, it does not mean theres definatly no problem with yours, so if in doubt, get someone else to give it a go and see how they feel about it. The gearbox ratios changed slightly in 2004, but it essentially feels the same as I understand it. Also, it was possible to order an LSD from 2004 onwards I think, but sure to be corrected by some of the more knowledgeable posters on here if I'm inaccurate. Works has the same intercooler as standard, the only difference is the colour of the plastic trim on it. A bigger I/C can make a good difference in very hot weather, but is marginal most of the year in this country. Perhaps if you had a more agressive tunning package than the Works then you might need a larger I/C. If however you do choose to change it, the company of choice in the UK for I/C change is probably GRS motorsport , widely lauded as the best available readily in the UK, although there is nothing wrong with going the GTT route, they are also an excellent company (and do substantial other tuning mods too...) regards (and welcome) Tony |

Offline | I was only looking at the price of second hand S's on Autotrader the other night and was quite surprised how little a premium people are asking for their Works cars over the standard S which I think is brilliant for someone looking to buy a second hand Works Would agree with Tony, were all here to offer our advice and offer help towards fellow members, no call or need for rudeness |

| The Power Cube | Wait a minute.... Everyone is entitled to their own views, yes? Well, all I said (and plenty will agree with me and have done in several threads, as many will disagree also) was that buying a JCW car is a waste of money with respect to its performance in comparison to what can be achieved by buying an MCS and getting a 3rd party to modify it. It's common knowledge. There was nothing bad to be meant by my statement, nor was it intended to be rude. I think someone has just taken the worng end of the stick, the end dipped in dog doo. Also - I must have touched a nerve here for you to all pounce on me like Humboldt Squid. Oh well. Your replies have not offended me. And the term "dude" was just a generic reference to the 'other person'. Enjoy your day By the way, did you ever get any info on the Gearbox? Cheers, CSW. ![]() Too many mods to list, PM me if the cat needs killing... |

Offline | If you think the JCW S looses money, try selling a second hand S with some other manufacturers tuning kit on it!! Probably be the quickest car to the auction houses! ![]() |

Offline | two versions? There is two versions of the getrag box but they were only available firstly (my one) on the July 04 onwards and the second on Jan05 onwards(now with LSD). But yours being a 53 plate It should be the older style gearbox unless its been replaced with a much newer one All Clunky though im afraid... just a feature ![]() Same intercooler and well any of the aftermarket intercoolers will probably do better even the GP one ![]() |
