Liner under Bonnet

Are there any reasons "not" to remove the liner under the bonnet?

It would save weight, lower center of gravity (yes, I know, not by much on either of those two points), I'd hear the engine more (that's a good thing), and I'd have another part of the car to clean and shine!

I have seen others ask this in the past, there is a thread somewhere about it, but can't seem to find it right now

But from what I recall the lining does give some heat protection to the bonnet, but it is mainly there as sound proofing and people have removed it for weight savings and for changing to other materials which are mirrored for show cars.

The only problem I have is knowing which one to drive?

It's purely for sound proofing and has no heat protection (other than incidental).

It was acceptable in the 80's
