![]() Extra 3 Inches | Why Are So Many GP's For Sale? Just out of curiosity, I had a look at the MINI Cherished website today to see if any JCW GP's are on there. There are 8! Most (actually, all but 2) are 'Price On Application' (meaning the dealers aren't brave enough to advertise how much mark-up they are trying to make over what they have offered the owners!) and only 2 have pictures. It got me thinking, why are so many for sale? Add to this the ever-increasing number that seem to be appearing in/on Auto Trader and the like (eBay appears to have died a death?) and you get an awful lot of people that just don't like the car! ![]() |

| Nice TTs......... | I think the lack of practicality has to be an issue ![]() It was for me anyway - strangely, one dealer over here had 3 new ones in stock at one stage, out of the total of , I believe, 8 that made it to Ireland, one is sold, one is sold but being held in the showroom, as the purchaser is looking for a mark-up on it and is selling it on, and one is being taken by the DPs son. Strange really ![]() ![]() Global Moderator |

Offline | I think a lot of them were bought for the sole reason of selling them on for a profit, by people who never wanted to own the car in the first place. But I also think everyone was suprised by the sheer amount of people (and dealers-in some cases) that have tried to do this. Even Mr.GP--"I will never sell"-- 0002 couldn't resist ![]() And you (scrogg) said that Mini didn't just randomly pick the production numbers and cost for the GP out of a Hat;..they were carefully thought out. Those that want one; have got one.....so the people that had 22k to play with-(foolish they were-some may say) are now left with a car that they don't want and can't sell! and in some cases selling back to their dealers!Im sure there are some people just couldn't live with the car for whatever reasons, which meant they had to sell but I think overall it's people trying to make a quick buck............which is fine.........as long as you can actually sell the car in the first place.......... | Syd | I was offered two GPs by one dealer, one by another, when they were taking your grand off you, for an order. I have to say, I thought long and hard, but didn't like some of the looks (un-finished body kit and the wheels, personal things) and I ordered a top spec MCS JCW210, how I wanted it to look. I have only seen one GP in the flesh, aside from the Motor Show one, they look awesome, but I still prefer my car. I think some owners will have impulse bought and are now dissapointed, trouble is the dealers will have their eyes out, on a trade purchase and who, in their right mind, with £25k ish, is going to buy a car off e-bay or Auto Trader? There will have been those, who are not interested in MINI at all and saw it as a chance to cash in and make a quick buck. I hate those people, not because I am against free enterprise, but because they may have taken a car, which then deprived a true MINI lover. In the lead up to deliveries, the hated e-bay even carried sales of a place in the queue. I passed the one, which I saw on to my dealer, who got the order cancelled. I am sure the majority of people who read this, would either love to own a GP, or (like me) respect it for what it is, or actually own and enjoy one. I wish one and all every enjoyment and to the speculators - catch a cold! UNLESS YOU LIVE LIFE ON THE EDGE, YOU ARE TAKING UP TOO MUCH SPACE |

Offline | Nail on head. I don't think 8 is all that many to be honest considering there are about 445 GP's in the UK. That's not even 2% of them on sale. Global Moderator ![]() |

Offline | 8-That's just today, there have been a lot more around on eBay and Autotrader the last couple of weeks, including those that have been sold. Granted It's not massive numbers, and most are the same un-shiffted ones. But it sure is more than 8 / 2%. ......Not really bothered though TBH, I bought one to love and to cherish; as long is it isn't worth less than 20k by the time i'm old enough to drive it ; I'll be happy. The re-sellers can do what they like........... Offline | Practicallity being an issue? who buys a 2 seater and thinks about practicality? My dealer had one GP for sale because the person who ordered it could not get the finance through MINI or other means. Order was cancelled, deposit returned and it was sold on for RRP. The only reason so many are still for sale is that a lot of people are not daft enough to pay the over inflated prices some folks are asking for so they keep hanging around! Its a very difficult job and the only way to get through it is we all work together as a team..... |

| Nice TTs......... | True, but most see a MINI , think 4 seater, semi-practical, but can't understand where the other two seats have gone Many are on sale for RRP though - I think at this stage, the launch of the R56 will have a negative effect on the sales of the remaining unsold GPs though......... Still, can't say I'd feel sorry for the speculators if that happened, and the true, appreciative enthusiasts won't mind, cos they would be retaining their cars anyway ![]() ![]() Global Moderator |
