Offline | GP's Forecourt Experiences. Does anyone else have a problem with every Tom, **** and Harry coming upto you as you are filling up with Fuel to ask about the car? At first it was novel but the charm was wearing off quite rapidly until this morning. Pulled up to the local Tesco's for a bit of the old Super Unleaed, kid in the back of a Land Rover leans out the passenger window, points at the car and said "Look dad the king of Mini's....." bless em , that made my day. Anyone else had similar experiences? Its a very difficult job and the only way to get through it is we all work together as a team..... |

Offline | Here stateside, I drove mine clear cross country from Ft.Lauderdale to San Francisco and had few if any responses. This being the land of the gas guzzling SUV, I wasn't too surprised. I saw very few Minis if any during the drive. It's only in LA and closer to SF that I noticed a few more heads turning. I did get a couple of thumbs up from some kids as well. At least they know a good thing when they see one... |

![]() Oh good grief! | The GP usually caused a bit of a stir with the petrol pump attendants in Italy who all seemed to know about the car. One attendant in Milan (who didn't speak a word of English) got all excited and started pointing at the roof on the passenger side. All became clear to him when I took him round to the other side to show him the number. Obviously he had never seen a right hand drive version. ![]() |

Offline | Remnds me of when we pcked up our first Cooper, way back when (around a year before I joined Mini2 ) it was one of the first delivered..... (August 2001? Cant remember)Everyone stared - many people came and asked questions - stopped at a traffic lights outside a resturant, and everyone with a window seat in the resturant was looking at the car and pointing etc..... Group of people at a zebra crossing we pulled up at stopped walking half way accross the road and turned to ogle the car, even had some people pointing, giving thumbs up and one time even clapping.... madness..... car still got damaged on its first day out by some classic mini git though (only minor but enough) And that was just a Pure Silver Cooper with 17" wheels..... It was a bit embarressing, especially on the drive to work on the motorway - had to remember not to pick ones nose as someone was bound to be staring at the car..... Eventually cured it by getting the windows blacked all the way round - even the fronts (but not windscreen), made people stare even more because the car looked soooo gooood, but at least they couldnt see the driver properly then..... then went through most of it again, when we got the S's. Forever explaining about superchargers..... ![]() |

Offline | Joogle, presumably this thread is not really about how much of a problem it is, but how chuffed you are with "the problem". Fair enough, I myself was chuffed with it for 5 minutes, however I sold my GP for these very reasons. Yes, initially it was great having a 15-year-old lad drag his mate to look at the car as I drove past and excitedly shout , "Look, LOOK! It's one of those special MINI's". But the novelty of all the forecourt attention, from owners of much more expensive cars admitedly, soon wore off and I hankered for a less lairy and standout car. And I didn't exactly do many miles in it. The day before my car went, some 30-something muppet stopped me to say that he doesn't normally like MINI's, but thought the GP looked smart... then proceeded to tell me that I should really, "Do it properly," and get myself a Subaru Impreza. That, and the news (or was it rumour?) that Rooney has a GP, just helped make up my mind that it wasn't for me. Sorry. Again, no offence to other GP owners, but I can't lie and pretend that I was over the moon with the car when it got rid of it because it was too lairy, too brash, too noisy, impractical, had very crashy suspension (how come no-one else has mentioned this?)etc. I promise that I'll let you mock my 'boring' (and considerably slower) Golf GTI when I get it! |
