What's this?

I have seen a GP for sale that has a 'Sun Specialist Exhaust' fitted. I have googled the name and nothing.

As I am new to the Mini scene, could some one shed some light for me?

Thanks

Personally I would avoid a GP that's been modified. With regards to a 'Sun Specialist Exhaust', that's a new one to me. Never heard of it.

Never heard of that exhaust ... Tuned GPs are fine as long as the kit that was used is good quality. There are numerous MINIs out there from stock S to JCW to GP running 230+bhp for lots and lots of miles with no issues the S box and engine is pretty durable!

Brilliant thanks for the advice. I was just trying to understand if it is a 'known' modification.

I have contacted the seller of the car and apparantly he drives Ferrari's etc and the Sun Specialist is a good system. Again, I googled it and nothing came up, so a little dubious.

I will ask him if he has the original as well.

I saw a GP advertised recently and it had a single oval exhaust fitted - looked a bit naff to me - but basically, an after marlet exhaust isnt going to ruin a GP appart from a position of personal taste anyway. If I were buying a GP with an after marlet exhaust, I'd ensure that the original exhaust was available for retro fit....

Never hear of the product you have described though - 'Sun' ???

In fact, we've been looking at the same advert...

Cheers Tony, that is my thoughts exactly.

This is the exhaust:

Scotland

could very well be a custom built job which does not need to mean poor quality

we have a company up here (scotland) called freeflow and they do exhausts which look more like a work of art and come with a lifetime warranty

but the down side for buyers is they are expensive

Persoanlly, I dont like what they have done, but yes it does look 'custom', as it reminds me of designs you see on Porsches.

I have no reason to suspect that a 'custom' job would be poor quality, indeed, in my experience, 'custom' jobs are usually high quality one off's that havent been 'designed' by an accountant for mass production.

The price of that mini I have just posted, is the cheapest around. I have searched and searched for GP's for a while now and my only reservation is the fact it has that exhaust and he has fitted an Alpine stereo system.

I do like the idea of 'original' but if the seller has the original parts as well it may be worth the purchase?

Cheers

Yes, would be nice to have the Works exhaust, although actually the Works exhaust is nothing special in itself anyway. Wouldnt be at all worried about the stereo, in fact, I'd have a satnav one fitted like Rakey has (TV screen etc).

You might even be able to resell the exhaust.

Seems a good price, and has been advertised for a while so if its still available you might even get a discount.....

Yeah, good call.

I think the GP's will have to come down a little now and that one is in the realistic range.

I am speaking to the bloke on Tuesday (as he is away) and see what I can negotiate!!

Hell Yeah!

Basically, they are refering to a guy (Robin SUN), that manufacturers custom exhausts for Porsche's - as I said, the one on the GP looks like one from the back of a high performance Porsche. Maybe the guy that modded it is into Porsche's and used one of these on his GP? Looks pretty unique to me....

Just re read my earlier posts and I see I never mentioned Porsche - bu tthat GP's exhaust reminds me of a Porsche 996 Turbo box - seen them on Boxsters too....

Wicked, cheers.

I kinda realised that after I posted

Very good call, I will have a word with the chap tommorow and see if I can contact the original owner as the car is at a dealership.

Also want to make sure it doesnt void the warranty.

Again thanks for your help.
