Offline | Hi all, Has anyone else in the UK (or worldwide) started to experience this problem: http://gpmini.net/wp/2007/05/flaking_paint/ If so, I am very interested in seeing what your dealer has said and whether it is covered by the warranty (I guess it should be). I am yet to discuss this with my dealer, first wanting to gather some feedback from you guys before doing so... Also, if the stealer (!) were to re-spray the front bumper, what sort of a colour match can I expect? Thanks fellow GP-ers! |

Offline | After a couple of weeks of owning my GP, I noticed some paint bubbles around the fog light on the rear bumper. Took it to the dealership with no problems and was resprayed by their BMW paintshop. No problem with colour match and did a great job. Earlier this year I then noticed paint flaking around the 'brake ducts'. on the front bumper I was going to take this to the dealer but someone at work decided to reverse into me, so through his insurance I got a brand new bumper. ![]() This was resprayed by an independant body shop. Again no problems and pleased with the results. The only other issue is the thin 2 stage paint coat. One or two stone chips on the front bonnet through to the white undercoat, Dealership have had a brief look at this but indicated that yes they know the paint is thin, that's how it was manufactured, the stone chips are wear and tear and I'd be lucky to get it through on a warrenty claim. ![]() Chris. |

Offline | well have problems on front bumper, where the fog lights should be. paint coming off and bubbles and all. anyway.. took into dealer today, after last week Mini Speciallist from Milan came over to inspect the car at my local dealer (Asti). they are going to repaint the whole part. Not happy about it happening, but happy with the level of service in solving it. will report back once i get the car on Thursday. paint is valid for 5 years. that is what he told me. |

Offline | Hi all, LMB - thanks for checking; yes it is only around BOTH dummy air-intakes, the driver's side being the worst at the moment with the passenger side bubbling as we speak! I rang my dealer this morning & I'm taking her in to be assessed next Saturday morning... my gut feeling is to push for a whole new bumper re-spray... under warranty of course... well, why not (a few other stone chips could do with a lick of paint anyway)! PS - Anyone experienced the "other problem" I've just come across (please see the other thread I've contributed too re the possible hole in the GP's exhaust in the middle of my car: http://www.mini2.com/forum/john-coop...-problems.html) HOWEVER... Despite these GP-specific problems, I wouldn't trade this car in for the world! I love it!! |

Offline | Paul Hi I had exact same problem. took it in, and 4 days later its all re-painted and looks like new. I even got a replacement car during the 4 days. solid service. I even had the hold in the exhaust problem like you, and that was fixed earlier this year: they replaced the whole part. again, solid service. and like you.. even with the few issues I have had (some really annoying) I would not trade my GP for anything else. was a great purchase. Offline | Took the GP into Knights BMW/MINI in Stafford today (who I rate quite highly btw) for them to assess the flaking paint problem. Dealer took some photos & will be sending them to BMW to authorise a warranty claim; they agreed with me straight away that it needs to be rectified under warranty. Should be fixed in a few weeks time. Incidentally, they said that mine is the 1st GP they'd seen with this problem (as well as the hole in the exhaust silencer/muffler problem)! |

Offline | You will have no problem with the repainting of the bumper, I have used Richard Wrights (the body shop who Knights use) on many occasions and have nothing but praise for the guys there, always a 1st class job with excellent results ![]() ![]() |
