Offline | GP hydrolocked My car hydrolocked 2 weeks ago , my insurance is covering a new short block and all installation costs. So I decided to use this as an opportunity to make some changes. I've bought a M7 Cosworth head and some other parts. The install should be complete early this week, I've then booked it in for dyno tuning at Lucky Dog Garage on the 14th. Results to follow |

Offline | Water has entered the piston chambers, and as water is incompressable like air when the piston rises in the bore it cannot compress the water so someting has to give . In most cases it is the conrods and pistons that are damaged and the valves . It can also cause twisting of the main crankshaft due to the torque imparted by the flywheel trying to turn the engine but cannot because the pistons are locked . As you can see this is a destroyer of engines. This happened to a person at work , on his golf R32 V6 during the recent wet spell he drove through some deep water and the engine sucked in water through the inlet manifold ..It cost him 5K for a new engine ![]() ***If it aint broke don't fix it.*** |

Offline | When the dealer told me that Mini does not cover this, they told me about the insurance covering it, apparently hydrolock is not uncommon, I was their 3rd case last month. State Farm is my insurance company, they were great about it, I had the check within a week of their inspection plus I get a allowance for a hire car. Here are some pic's what hydrolock looks like , inside and out. From the outside you would never know (except for trying to start it)![]() ![]() ![]() |

Offline | My comprehensive cover with Norwich Union covers damage to the car and has no exclusion for damage caused by the engine ingesting water ( unless it was the consequence of an earthquake) so this would just be a normal claim. If it is not specifically excluded it will be covered under a comprehensive policy. |
