Offline | John Cooper Works? We've just bought a 2003 S with a 210 Works kit that was only fitted this year @28K mls (5K mls ago). Well actually it's still at the dealers as there's a slight problem. It doesn't go as well as I think it should, but I've not driven another Works. On a short test drive it doesn't seem any quicker than a std 2005 S that I drove to compare. In fact acceleration in second gear at about 4-5K rpm is NOT stunning and even seemed slightly slower than the stock car. The car runs smoothly and quietly otherwise. Should the performance increase be very noticeable? I'm of the opinion that it should and certainly not feel slower than a stock car. BTW the ECU is NOT in default 'get you home' mode. Can anyone help with their experience of a Works kitted car? Thanks. |

Offline | Should feel very different, although it's smooth so doesn't feel overly aggressive or 'tuned', just quicker all the time. There aint no party like my nana's tea party |

Offline | when I changed from a 163BHP 2003 MCS to a 210BHP JCW I wasn't immediately impressed by the accelleration, until I started paying attention to the speedo! The supercharger gives a very linear delivery which means you don't tend to get the "kick in the back" feeling, you're just moving bloody fast without knowing it! I can now keep up with Civic Type Rs, which I had no chance of doing before. |

Offline | That's all good information, thanks. One other aspect that I'm not entirely happy with is that when you just 'blip' the throttle the engine takes rather a long time to settle back to idle, as if the cable was a bit sticky (it's not). Again, the 05 didn't do this. Does the JCW kit cause this, or are all 03 cars like that? Or do I need to get the dealer to look further into this? |

Offline | There is no cable! its drive-by-wire! mine is exactly the same, even worse when its cold. The un-responsive blip is due to the single throttle body and the distance from the butterfly valve to the inlet valves. |

Offline | Jcw 03 Hi, If you do a search on this web site you will find that some one has done a speed comparision between the standard 03 and the 05 finding there was a conciderable difference due to the gear ratios. He also remarked that the standard 05 cooper S felt as quick as the 03, works due to the gearing. yours Chris. |

Offline | Uken' Yep hear you on this one, we tried loads of post face lift std MCS when looking for my wifes car and I have to say around town they felt every bit as quick as my early 04 JCW (with 210 upgrade)in fact still not sure that mine is any quicker. My wife finally purchased a MCSC JCW which is no doubt quicker than my hatch, due to whatever gearing and other mods were carried out on facelift. So hear and feel what you are saying.
