Pictures Of New Jc Works S, At Thruxton

Firstly I would like to give a big thankyou to all of the guys at the picture shoot today, thanks for putting up with me dribbling on the WORKS cars, and thanks for letting me do five laps of the Thruxton circuit in my own cooper (totally empty track, just me). I will take that memory with me to my grave!

There were three works cars there today; the cooper raced by Mr M Cooper himself, the works S, and the works cooper.

Both of the works models looked almost identical in red/white paint and matching aero body kits.

I have put a few piccys in my gallery, I have more to show, but I feel it would be rude to show similar ones that are to soon appear in the pages of the JCW brochure, so they are mainly of the car stationary. It will do you good to wait!

There didn't seem to be many differences in the models interiors, a few switchs looked like they had been re-designed (sunroof button and side seat lever) and there was the appearance of the mystical karmon speakers in the door card.

Saving my pocket money now

SORRY, large photos again!

Thanks for that Bigahead, and don't you think I'm jaleous of you, you lucky *******

Like those DTM-like exhaust tips (look a lot like the Hamann ones BTW). Did you hear the Works-S by any chance? How did it sound?

ps lucky *******

I think that the pipe ends are bolt on chrome bits, it looked like there were a few grub screws holding them on!

I'm afraid I have a confession to make...

...even though the works cooper s looks like a works cooper s, the only differences to that actual model was the body kit, wheels and exhaust. The rest is standard.

John cooper does have several prototypes of the propper works s, but they weren't visually up to speed on the day ,

This car had to be put together at the last minute for the shoot. This is exactly how the works will look, but it hadn't had any engine modifications, apart from the exhaust. (sorry)

The works cooper had a K&N induction kit on it!

p.s.

the s did sound mental with that exhaust.

No works badging?

While it's nice to see pictures, I'm more interested in your impressions if you indeed did see them test a Works S on the track. How did it fair against the Cooper or Cooper Works? Was it noticeably quicker? Did they comment on whether or not it was easier to launch without requiring extra revs. I would hope, but you never know how it's tuned. For all round torque, or only at high RPMs.

In the actual test mules did they upgrade the brakes? Suspension?

Cheers,
Brant

Even though the S has the Aero Kit, I thought they would have put the chrome grille on it

Firstly, thanks for the pictures, they are excellent. Secondly, you do have a point. If you would prefer the thread back in general discussion, or maybe "future variants" let Paul or one of the mod's know. ( It is rather more S specific though don't you think ? )

Cheers

Looks like an ANSA exhaust system to me, judging from the tail pipe design. Almost identical to one I fitted to my old X19. (I've no doubt the exhaust system outlived the car)

it's not a supersprint exhaust, the end chrome pipes weren't tappered on either side as shown in your photo.

Glad someone noticed the HK speakers , i also have a picture of the new sunroof button (wow), but i've run out of space on my gallery page (hint, hint)

Like i said in my last post, the only performance modification to this actual car was the exhaust, but I assume as this was the brochure shoot that either the works s isn't going to have a works badge on it, or that it'll be air brushed in before the printing begins.

it's your web site Basil, it's up to you Sir where it goes

did i mention my five laps of an empty thruxton ciruit.........

I thought there were going to be twin exhausts on either side of the rear?

Shame if that's changed....

Apparantly dropped because BMW didn't want it looking too much like the M3 etc.
