United-Kingdom Living with a JCW

Hi all - just test drove a JCW at Wollastons in Northampton - WOW! Superb power great fun to drive. (210bhp with uprated brakes)

Just wanted to ask what they are like to live with?

Are there any real downsides to having the JCW over the Cooper S?
Are they much more expensive to look after?

Thanks for any wise words!

Cheers all.

The answer to both of those questions is fuel economy. I think that speaks for itself.

Get past that and just enjoy the car.

I've had both (currently JCW) and I am averaging about 2 mpg less that's all. Insurance is a bit steeper but there are good deals about (I find swiftcover cheap for me). Other than that pretty much everything else is the same....same as a one even. You might go through tyres a bit quicker but nothing that bad. Go for it and enjoy.....I've not stopped smiling

PS. same emissions on both so car tax will stuff you either way

can't comment on the difference between standard and jcw only having a jcw, but so far great, my dealer swears the jcw is more fuel efficient than standard although that may just be dealer bs. Regularly get 38-39mpg and have seen 41 more than once on 250mile trips mostly motorway. Long term mileage this year is 34mpg

I should of said - my average over 16k miles is about 31 mpg. 20 miles commute to work each way - fairly varied a/b roads and a bit of city work (v-power of course).

somone on here said think of a mcs as smiles per mile rather than mpg, but you don't really by one for it's economy.

Theres only one thing I hate about my JCW, and thats driving it when it's dirty....!!! I have a compulsion to keep it clean.

Don't really care about the MPG, I bought it for fun and enjoyment, use it every day to commute to and from work and absolutely love it. Best car I've ever had.

Yes, I want to know too how you are achieving 30mpg.

I'm averaging about 21mpg. The only way I could do 30mpg is to drive everywhere under 3000rpm !!! and thats just too boring.

Australia

The only problem that we have encountered with our 210hp JCW is that when ever we drive it we find that we have a grin from ear to ear.

Drove home from work last night, total journey of 26 miles, drove very conservatively, didn't accelerate aggressively kept to the speed limit, still only managed 27mpg.

Who cares! so my carbon footprint isn't that good, and I'm helping to destroy the ozone layer, but my grin and laughter will keep me young at heart.

i have a 34 mile round trip to work and back, it s slightly down hill to work so according to the computer if i drive like an old man (cruise controll set at 56)i get 42 mpg. on the way home (uphill) i get 30mpg, but hey who wants to drive like an old man so i normally get about 23 mpg on average(but with a huge grin). let my kids worry about the hole in the ozone .
