Popping

Has anyone else noticed that you get a lot more pops and occasionally bangs from the exhaust when you put V-Power or Ultimate in compared to normal supermarket fuel.

If you're only paying £1 something a litre that's cheap! I'm paying £1 + arm & leg a litre

That's because the car requires a minimum of 98RON, anything less will cause the car to richen the mixture and retard the timing to prevent detonation.

Normal unleaded is not acceptable to use in a Cooper S, look inside the filler flap and the manual.

I only use V-Power as well, but part of the deal from the dealer included a full tank of petrol. Unfortunatly he filled it up with regular Esso

You can really notice the difference!

" "Rubbish statement"

Read you cap again and you will see it clearly states between 91 - 98 next to the word RON. its next to the picture of the users guide in the cap, this is true for the facelift and also the new S.

The hand book also states that you can use 91-98 RON though the JCW reccomends 98.

The reason your experiencing more pops (overrun) is due to the better timing provided from the higher ron petrol, your over run is used to cool and lubricate you cylinder head but only slightly, an effect of everything working better means you hear the overrun more.
