Hang on - I remember that same GP image being used on another scam.

I'm sure we decided that car actually belongs to someone on here!

I'm off to report the page to eBay.

Cheers,
Andrew.

Its does look an awful lot like GP Micks car, can't be that many about with those red stripes on.. I thought he was the only one

Can't belive the guy doing the scam has so much feedback tho.. must be a hijacked account as well as a scam listing.

Scammers like this always give out an e-mail address (hence his answers to all the questions) so that they can try and 'sell' the item without going through eBay/PayPal.

If some sucker actually pays for it before they see it, they make their money.

Well done for reporting it, though I'm not surprised that it's still up. I can't understand why eBay aren't more concerned about protecting their own reputation, by removing this sort of scam within minutes of being notified

It's a question of volume - the sheer volume of listings means that they can't look at every one. If a seller has a past history with positive feedback, then their items aren't scrutinised as closely - even when a report is filed, the reported items from sellers with next to no feedback are higher on the priority for them to tackle.

Think how many people they'd have to employ to have an instantaneous response, and it quickly becomes clear why they sometimes are slow to act on a tip. It's not like MINI2 where we have willing volunteers up at all sorts of crazy hours to moderate everything at a moment's notice.

All the best,
Andrew.

But it's still up, the bidding had now reached £2050 and there is only 4 hours until the end of the auction.

It's now highly likely that someone could get their fingers burnt here. Unfortunately, anyone that does loose money in these sorts of circumstances would probably be unaware if eBay had previously been notified. The sort of potential for liability in those circumstances might encourage eBay to act a little faster....

You're assuming that there's a person actually reading the message. This tends not to be the case.

Just so you guys know what's going on with that listing:

Message: I am a member of MINI2.com, a MINI enthusiast society online. The going rate for the car featured in that advert (a MINI Cooper S John Cooper Works GP) is in the region of £18,000-20,000. The asking price of £4,500 via e-mail should alone ring alarm bells. In addition, I've seen that exact picture used previously on an eBay advert (previously withdrawn). I also believe that is a picture of a car owned by a MINI2.com member (username: GPMICK). In addition, the GP is a limited edition car (only 2000 were made) and real sales include the identification number of the car (e.g. GP0001, GP0002, etc). Please see this thread for details to check if the real owner pops up: http://www.mini2.com/forum/john-coop...6745-real.html Please feel free to contact me via my e-mail address, eBay account, or via the MINI2.com screen name "NeuroBeaker". I hope all necessary steps are taken to protect eBay users from fraudulent activity. Many thanks, Andrew.

I'm sorry to say that the "auction" did run to term and someone has agreed to pay £5,100.11 for this car. No sign of eBay taking any action yet

E-bay scams

2007 MINI COOPER S JCW BLACK on eBay, also, Mini, Cars, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 29-May-08 12:27:03 BST)

Not 100% sure, but this looks like another.
This must be a £18-20k car.
