Offline | Guy's factory fit JCWS became avail from Oct 2005 after being announced in July 05. But of course a dealership could still perform a retro fit. |

Offline | So is an R56 with JCW as quick as a GP? Or would the GP simply out handle it? I think the R56 standard S is deemed to be as quick or quicker than a JCW R53? I'm just going on what I have read on here. |

Offline | R56 is as quick as R53 JCW, correct R56 MCS is not as quick as GP R56 JCW1 against a GP, not tried that, but I'd bet you are right about handling comparison The only problem I have is knowing which one to drive? ![]() |

![]() You can put lipstick on.. | The R55/6 with JCW and brakes and suspension is about as quick in a straight line as the GP, but the GP is lighter by quite a bit so reacts better on the twisty bits at full chat without the DSC/ASC cutting in, if you turn off the stability controls the back end gets a bit on the 56 wheras the GP just slides around with scrabbling tyres IMO |

![]() MINI2 Master | Had a test drive in a GP over the weekend: I really wanted to love it and was very excited, but it's just not a big enough improvement over my JCW. It's a little like hi-fi; subtle difference that you pay a lot for, IMHO it should have been four/rear-wheel drive with less weight and more power, but that would have changed the MINI-ness. I didn't think that road noise would be an issue for me, but it was, which I was suprised about. I've also had a few people say that it looks a bit 'Halfords', some didn't like the rear spoiler, other didn't like the wheels - though I do love the look of it, probably not the right car for the car park at work either (chav-magnet). Feeling quite dissapointed. |

Offline | They must be different in England ![]() GPMINI still regularly gets positive comments from people. Sorry you didn't like it - but instead, you love your current JCW hopefully. BTW: I suspect 4WD would make the car heavier, so 4WD+lighter is very unlikely! |

| Giggity-goo! | That's a shame. I haven't driven an R53 Cooper S JCW to compare the magintude of the improvement with the GP. From those I have spoken to who have come from an R53 JCW to a GP, the impression they had was that the GP was a more complete package. With regards to aesthetics, the GP will always divide opinion. However, the spoiler, rather than just some bolt-on halfords crap actually serves a legitimate purpose in helping reduce lift and lower the drag coefficient over the regular Cooper S. For me, that forgives any looks! ![]() |

Offline | "R56 is as quick as R53 JCW, correct R56 MCS is not as quick as GP R56 JCW1 against a GP, not tried that, but I'd bet you are right about handling comparison" In reality the above data is quite meaningless in real world driving conditions and my view is just go with what looks right for you. Once you figure in driving ability, nerve (or stupidity), petrol in tank, passenger etc then it really all evens out. I have an old JCW and was overtaken and left for dead by a standard cooper the other day just beacuse I was a bit dozey and slow off the mark etc and had a full tank, luggage and three passengers. Unless its a track day toy then surely the best car for you is based on the deal, look, practicality of having 2/4 seats, mpg etc All great cars in the end though Antony |

Offline | Of course there is the option of the faactory 06 JCW with the 225 upgrade and a GP intercooler !!, I wonder how that would fare against a GP? or an R56....... |

Offline | i 've got a 53 S JCW ( engine and breakes from the factory 2005) and recently a full JCW factory stage 2 ( 211 pk) . The 56 realy is the quicker car, but the 53 is more like a cart! The suspension give more feedback than the one on the 56... also the power steering in the 56 is to soft... with the sportbutton on it a little better..but not as in the 53. the 53 looks better than the 56 but general the 56 is the better car....much more grown up . i will post some pics when i'm able too |

I'm on my 4th supercharged mini. I just couldn't bring myself to take that minger home so went for the GP! |

Offline | Not sure we get the GP down here but we had the R53 JCW MCS's available from 2002. This is all fairly new to me as I'm in the market looking for a R53 MCS preferably with the JCW Kit. |
