Question Question for any one who works at the MINI plant.

A mate of mine knows someone who works at the MINI Cowley plant and he was told by him that there was a problem with the gearboxes and the engine getting the oils mixed up!!

Apparentley when the oils were deliverd they were put into the wrong tanks!! Is this why the gearboxes have been going wrong?

Also he said that there was a problem with the suspension bolt security. The robot that checks the torque on the line has only been checking one of the three bolts and the other ones haven't been tight enough. This was found out after an inspection of a crashed MINI!!

Can anyone verifiy this?

I hope the above is just a rumour!

I don't think you're going to get an answer --- liability reasons.

Gearbox oil smells very different to engine oil. In fact, engine oil doesn't smell much at all (at least when it's new), but a little bit of gearbox/diff oil can stink out your whole garage

I really can't believe it would happen.

I think it would be quite obvious.
