| Nice TTs......... | In all fairness, I think insurance companies have their own agenda........I wouldn't imagine their business stategies are influenced by BMW or MINIs pricing structure in any way......... With the way premia in all areas of insurance, motor, liability and general insurance are rising, they seem happy to fleece us all in any way possible, and don't need much encouragement..... ![]() ![]() Global Moderator |

| Amiga 500 to PS3 20 Years | I'm insured with Adrian Flux for my Cooper Works call 08700 777 888 or logon here. £830 for me and my girlfriend on a modified car policy. I'm 23 with 5 years NCD, so pretty good really. Especially considering I paid £1200 the previous year (ouch!) ![]() It was acceptable in the 80's |

| heterochromic & loving it | View from across the pond... I talked this over with my insurance company a few weeks ago (Progressive), we talked about what was involved, I even gave them a copy of the official MINI releases about it, and their considered response was that there would be no additions/increases to my premium, and the new parts would be covered as OEM parts. They took the view that this was no different than taking a finished car and having an OEM option like multi-function steering wheel retrofitted by the dealer, which would have no impact on premiums or coverage. Of course over here, our insurance companies don't drill down into details (like what wheels do you have, etc.) like some insurers seem to over there. Here they ask the year, the model, the safety feaures (does it have ABS, side airbags, etc.), and that's it. -Ricardo |

Offline | Having ordered my Cooper Works last month (awaiting with baited breath for the apparant June 21st delivery) I phoned my current insurer - What Car Insurance (the car mag, but insurance actually done by Royal & Sun). They quoted £400ish plus a 10% loading for the works package - and I live in London, generally a high risk, so high premium area. I have worked in actuarial costing of insurance, and I know that insurers will tend to penalise risk, especially when it is more unknown - hence it doesn't surprise me if people are getting silly quotes - I think the message is shop around to find an insurer experienced with the type of risk. This is my first post so apologies if its in wrong place etc! |

Offline | Max - so you reckon you got a fair crack of the whip with insurance costs on your upcoming conversion, do you? How did you get on, Mate? (Actually, and I'm not having a pop at the people here, but as I've said before, "tax is compulsory - insurance is optional." (only RTA cover is compulsory)). So, it winds me up a bit when guys whinge like hell about something that they have voluntarily undertaken). Why not climb into a gas oven for a warm, then whinge because you're likely to be blown to smithereens?? ![]() "I get by with a little help from my friends" |

Offline | Actually, you are not 100% correct on that. Most people finance the purchase of their cars. A stipulation on finance agreements is that you provide fully comprehensive insurance to protect the assests of the finance company (the car) (the car is their property until you pay the last payment). I have never seen a major purchase (be it car finance, house mortgage etc) that doesn't have small print in it that states that it is your responsability and a condition of the loan that Fully Comp insurance is taken out. Obviously, if you didn't finance the car, then its not a problem. However, I would say that most people that complain about the price of insurance are not the kind of people that have the means to purchase their £15k+ car without finance. |

Offline | Yeah - you're dead right on that (the finance bit). As soon as I'd pressed the enter key, wondered if someone would pick up error. Thanks, Tony. "I get by with a little help from my friends" |
