Offline | I tested one, thought it was OK, had the money, ordered the kit but I ended up not having it fitted! The problem is that pound for BHP, the kit isn't really worth it! One magazine said although it gave better horsepower (only about 8 BHP though!) it was actually slower through the gears than the standared car!! I saved my money. ![]() If you haven't got your MINI yet, why not use the £2,000 for the Cooper JCW kit and order an "S" instead? Probably comes out around the same price, depending on what Cooper spec you were ordering.Read about my test here (bit of a roller coaster this one as first I was convinced it was great, then I got the calculator out and started reading mag reviews!! ):http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthrea...&highlight=jcw Last edited by R1 : Dec 28th, 2003 at 06:49 PM. |

![]() Excited.. | Ive been lucky enough to have had my engine control unit coded to be specced up to the John Cooper Works standard. I would say that it didnt massively increase the power of the cooper, but, it was defiately noticeable. I didnt have all the other bits & pieces put on it cos I couldn't afford it. I had this done at the dealer I work for. Thank God for sly back-handers!!! I would reccommend you to have it done, cos think about when you come to sell it - John Cooper Works Coopers are very rare at the moment & you will increase the re-sale value of the car. Plus the fact you can brag to all the other Cooper owners that yours is a JCW!!! Think about all the invaluable street cred! Hope my advice helps your decision, Dave. ![]() |

| Amiga 500 to PS3 20 Years | Yeah JCW Cooper are incredibly rare. Especially the 132BHP model. That was only around for about a year and I have one of these cars I feel sorry now for the people buying the 122BHP version. Too quiet for my liking and not enough HP for your money Probably a bit more practical for everyday driving, but lets face it folks, who got their MINI for practicality?![]() It was acceptable in the 80's |

| My mini is my casket | I agree with R1 The only trade off is you have to decide if you want to just void your warranty and go with other after market products. I am going to wait the 3 years, and then im sure there will be even more out there to choose from. Then I will go all out with the header, valve cover, pulley, and ECU. |

Offline | wait a while. Eventually the S will be tuned to feck, demand for Cooper tuning is unbelievably high. american companies and some on here are already developing turbo conversions for the Cooper. it depends if you cant wait and want a BMW endorsed upgrade, or if you can wait, spend your cash on other upgrades and get an aftermarket conversion done. I'm pretty sure there will be cars based around the mini comin out from other companies, technology can be applied to a wide range of cars quite easily. I've had the dilema and concluded that i'll wait. £2300 to insure me on an S is stupid, so that money will get me 19s and coilovers this year. i'll save £6000 over 3 years insurance, thats a lot of cash for cosmetic work and other mechanical stuff / ICE etc. You'll see ![]() |

| My mini is my casket | the only thing is you keep your warranty. Thats the only thing thats worth it. If money is no object, then sure its ok. But I have to question just getting a WRX or a STI instead. because when all said and done, i would be spending about 30k anyhow. So why not get something that has almost 300hp. Its just not the mini's mentality. IMHO |
