Talking New Engine on the Works

The new Cooper S is going to come with 170bhp as standard. Will that mean the current Works Kit will give you 207bhp?

IF they do, do this then i believe they would have to ditch it. very expensive for 30BHP.

if they get approval i think it will be more likely for november, bmw take ages IMO!

you think they would put the price on teh kit to extreme though? god 265 seems good, but how about 300bhp and 250bhp, that sounds more like it. They basically trying to out do the other tune up companies then?

Can current Works owners benefit? Mechanically they're superior so I don't see why not? A little tweek of the ECU...

Come on JCG we need answers.

It sounds like they mena that the 2005 power increase will carry over to the JCW, which will also see the increase.

I'd like to know if existing JCW customers will get a discount for the 225 upgrade?

Also I wonder if this upgrade will be available as a retro fit?

Give them a ring Chris.

It would make sense to me if the 225HP kit became the official JCW kit.

At least then it would be a little more price competitive (55HP at least!) and far more worth while.

nah... too good to be true. Same money & more power doesn't sound very JCW to me. Further more what will happen to the existing JCW owners?
ps i'would be even closer to JCW in that case though, i like the kit but i don't like the current hp gains vs price, that's why i still keep my S stock.

I think the works package in combination with the uprated 170bhp will produce approx 207bhp.I cant see how JCW can realistically market 30 bhp for £3500 in the new models. It would mean that the cost/bhp ratio would be more inflated!!!!
My impression from talking to JCW is that all 3 products i.e)200+,225+ and 265bhp+ would be marketed as 3 separate conversions(I could be wrong)....but all this is dependent on the last 2 products getting BMW approval which as we all know is in the lap of the Gods :.
Naturally JCW are cautious about releasing any details pending BMW authorisation.I tried to press the guy at the service desk for a rough date and his response was hopefully before the end of the year!
I am very interested in these products now that the 265bhp Hartge conversion is on hold(no TUV approval)...shame!!!!
Just as an after thought any increase in power beyond 200bhp is going to require extra funds for brake modifications (brakes in MCS same as in MINI one!!!!) as well revision of suspension geometry.....(hello Mr bank manager)

I doubt any kit that replaces the OEM exhaust header + cat with a free-flow header + sports cat will get MINIUSA's approval because of the 50-State smog compliance.

That would be sweet Though you have to remember most of the major componentry of the MINI is designed up to a maximum of 250HP. Mainly the gearbox rating.

I wouldnt like to put 300HP through the 250HP rated 'box.

Which is why the 265 JCW conversion is basically a new engine and box to re-account for this boost in power and load on the equipment. Making it bl00dy expensive!

Hmm...........Question 1 - if the JCW is upgraded to 207 bhp, isn't that a little close to the next step, the 225 bhp version?

Question 2 - what happens when a September / 05 JCW is fitted to an 04 163 bhp MINI - do you get 200 bhp or 207 bhp?

I'd fancy knowing the answers to these before I splash out..........

Answer question 1.) I was told the 225bhp kit is for motorsport only and will NOT be covered by the BMW warranty.

Answer question 2.) IMO you'll get 207bhp - those of us with 200bhp will be able to upgrade for a 'nominal' fee.

I better wait till September then.........

I wonder will the September kit be the same price as now, or the usual £3.5k, plus the cost of the upgrade?

Its quite unclear really, isn't it?

To be honest I got the feeling that they weren’t sure themselves.

When I asked them whether the Kit price would be reduced since the new S comes with a 5th Gen Eaton, I was told “No “ as the Supercharger is still changed. Maybe it doesn’t have the abrasive coating? Who knows?

When I pressed as to what changes they'd do to current Works cars to get them up to 207bhp from what I could gather it was simply an ECU upgrade.

I’d definitely wait Aiden as you’ve got nothing to lose.
