Offline | I read this on another forum somewhere, I have tried to contact the originator for their sources! "Mini Cooper S Works !!! Yes it's different from Cooper S(155 hp). Specs of Cooper S Works.. - 200 hp !! - power-to-weight ratio of 174hp per tone - 0-60mph in less than six seconds - top speed of over 150mph - Approved by BMW and will developed by John Cooper's Garage in Sussex, England - Just 150 of this special Works edition will be available each year" "Another info.. There is rumor that BMW has secret plan to develop a small capacity direct engine for use in the new Mini and forthcoming BMW 2-series. I'm sure everybody knows that new Mini's 1.6-litre four cylinder engine is built in Brazil by Tritec-joint venture between BMW and Chrysler(not Daimler Chrylser). This engine is cheap to produce but technically deficient by BMW standards. Actually this engine was planned for the Rover car(code name R30). However, BMW no longer in possession of Rover. BMW's new engine will replace the current 1.6- litre engine in the middle of the decade." Can't prove this, but the "s" sounds HOT! :~ |

Offline | Ahh, that was you! I tried emailing the person who posted it to get some information, but no response (maybe a pretend email address to stop people like nme from pestering?!) I went to that forum a couple of times, then couldn't remember where it was! }:O |

Offline | Is that the package that has the smaller pulley, as well as intake and exhaust? From what I have heard, Cooper Garage will be selling this directly to the public. I realize it would be nice to get a car directly from the dealer, but we Yanks (and the 151th person who wants a Works) won't be able to get one. Is there anything additional on the "Works" MINI that isn't available on the S? I'd guess badging, but don't know about anything else. Anyone know? |

Offline | Is this 'New Mini Cooper S Works' thingy true or just another rumor? I pre-ordered a Cooper S at my local BMW dealer already, but still have the option to change. So, since I've heard that this TRITEC engine really is the same motor they put into the PT Cruiser since 2001, and this whole Chrysler problem seems to grow bigger and bigger, I'm not too entusiastic about that 'S'. Any opinions/informations would be greatly appreciated. |

Offline | Yes it is true, and if you goto www.johncooper.co.uk you can see info on it. Though they have VERY little information up at this time they do say that they are working on one. The Cooper S Works should be very similar to the alpina Cooper S that BMW is developing. I am still unsure who these two models will be sold though, if they will have to be imported to get them into the states or if BMW dealers will also sell the s works and alpina minis. I'll let you know more when it becomes available to me. |

Offline | I'm going to be crushed if we can't get either the Works or the Alpina MINI over here (US) We get so shafted on hot editions all the time. I NEED one! -Mike Charlotte, NC |

Offline | I'm wondering how hard it will be to modify the new mini??? *chuckle* after all, isn't that half the fun in owning a mini? Cut the cones down, modify the rear swing arm mounts, blow out the rubber subframe mounts and weld them solid. Then put on the stage 1, nah 2, no make the 3 kit, redo the head, the block, everything, cut the nose off......ooooops sorry I digress... Can you cut the nose off the new mini so you can add an ultralite fiber nose? Hope so!}> Cheers Erik www.minirun.org |
