Offline | Good points well made mate.... I'm sot that worried about my personal losses really, but what does scare the hell out of me is the fact that your life can potentially change so quickly for the most stupid of reasons. For instance, driving home in my wifes car last night, went around a corner on a b road that I've taken mayber a thousand times. Felt the rear end drifting noticably - immediatly thought, cool, thats fun, but its never done that before on this road at these speeds, so I wonder whats going on? Tried the brakes, and immidiatly the car stars slipping all over the place, first left, then right. So scarey, came to a complete halt and got out to check to see if the wheels were actually still joined to the car. Couldn't see any problems so set off again driving very carefully, problems didn't re-occur. So what caused this? Not 100% sure, but the only time this has ever happened to me before, there was diesel spilt on the road - and I can only assume that this is what happened last night - again, life could change so quickly - you always tend to think its going to happen to someone else. |

Offline | I have seen a more badly damaged MINI when mine was been repared at JCT 600 in bradford the front wheel had moved so much the passanger side a pillar had deformed the roof line. Mine had both the front wheels pushed back in the arches so they deformed body work in the same way yours have. Both air bags went off and i have had to have the dash replaced as well last price for repair was around 11K. If you do a search for uninsured drivers there are some pics on there. The main thing is that you are fine cars can be replaced limbs cannot. |

Offline | Have you had much rain?? The road salt applied to the road surface will stay present for some considerable time if not washed away by rain. Road salt is deliquescent-it pulls moisture out of the air. It is slippery when in a mildly damp state as the thin film of crushed salt reduces the coefficient of friction between road and tyre. This is currently the situation on our roads here in Cornwall. The roads in the winter tend to appear "sweaty" even though it hasn't been wet or drizzly. With regards to the collision....thank goodness you are relatively unhurt. I personally would be interested in viewing an approach shot of this "minor" off slip, and exactly what signage is in place. It would probably be a good idea to take one anyway, in case any remedial work is conducted to the area before a solicitor is on board. Consider getting a camcorder video recording done from the passenger seat of a friends car before anything changes. On a downside, the Highways Agency are rarely wrong when it comes to major trunk roads. The signage requirements are well documented within a manual that the district surveyor will use as reference. If the book has been followed, even though it may not appear to make total sense, then they tend to be bullet proof. However, if there is anything wrong, consider making only a "reasonable" claim. In my opinion (for what its worth), there will be a better chance of them settling a modest and accurate claim, than a highly inflated one. Good luck with this.....if they are at fault you deserve to be totally reimbursed. |
