Im interested in the Alta-Nator pulley, will this stop the running tap sound you get with a reduced pulley?

Also how easy is it to change this part and fit a new belt and tensioner?

Scott

Edit - i have a Alta 15% Pulley and Alta 2% crank pulley from you's so i guess this is needed?

Not sure what you mean by the "running tap sound" exactly, but the closest thing that i can think of is the gearbox chatter that you get when the box is in neutral. If you are looking to fix that then the alternator pulley wont "fix" it.

The fitting procedure for the Alta-Nator pulley is pretty straight forward. You wont need to remove the tensioner and the belt is pretty straight forward to fit. (Do bear in mind that i'm talking in a context of a workshop with all the tools and etc. rather than at home on the drive fitting...) I would say the fiddliest part is taking the tension of the belt.

Re: Needed...
We don't like to claim that anything is needed... However as you have the 2% crank pulley on, your alternator is spinning faster that originally and hence creating drag. By fitting an oversize alternator pulley you will gear it back down and bring it back to the standard speed. This can help to release some power...

Hope this helps,

Andrey

Running water noise - its common all MCS cars when they have a smaller pulley fitted there is thread around somewere explaining it but i cant find them, Basically when you hold the throttle on part revs it sounds like a running tap near the passenger glove box, the cause i no it as is that the water pump is running faster as is the alternator due to the smaller pulley and it bascially pushes water around faster and causes this sound!

Damn you Lohen,

i checked all over that document, no sign of any coilovers on special. You sure there are not a set of coilovers in your warehouse that need to be sold off for space and a low low price......LOL

Although i think i may be biting your hand for that schrick cam at that price

Funny you should mention that..... The other offer for christmas is free fitting on a set of coilovers purchased in December, check the link here for it:

http://www.lohen.co.uk/Images/Mailsh...cember2007.jpg

I know the time is running pretty short before Christmas, but we are always happy to discuss the options... Hence if you give us a call then we will tell you all about it. (ps. ask for Andrey )

So we are actually quite nice...

Andrey

I guess i have missed this sound as i spend so much time in the driver seat of the MINI... Must have a listen next time i fit one...

But lets take the following: if the "water tap" sound is caused by the fact that the water is moving faster then reducing the speed of the alternator might not help. Would be helpful to read the thread...
