Offline | Stone chip in windscreen. There is a surprisingly deep chip in the windscreen of my wife's new car. (Sorry, not a mini.) There seems to be so many gubbins embedded in screen, so would prefer avoiding replacement. I seem to recall that there was a service for repairing chips. Is this right? Does it work? Any recommendations? |

Offline | chips yes there are services that specialize in windshield chip repair. I have never used any, but I imagine they do a good job depending on the severity of the chip. I usually buy the do it yourself version available in automotive stores. It dose a good enough job for me. |

Offline | Yes. I had a chip repair in my front screen (MCS) about 10 days ago! Autoglass did the job.....go along like I did to their web site and all the information about how they repair chips is there in great detail. As a general rule with most people's insurance, as long as you have fully comprehensive insurance ,,,,,you have the option of a) a repair or b) a replacement windscreen. A replacement windscreen will take up your windscreen excess, which is typically about £50-£60 and that's it! It's OEM glass. Exactly the same as your manufacturer. Same tint, thickness, everything, possibly minus the embedded logo for example the mini logo in the bottom left corner, which you still have the option of having at an additional £100 + So you can imagine how many people insist on that ! As for the results of the repair I had.......very pleased. It doesn't completely get rid of the chip, but it dramatically reduces it to the point where you can't see it from alot of angles, Also it makes it as strong as before so it won't grow ! If you go for a repair a bit of advice is to get it done in the next couple of days......the sooner the better. The repair is believe it or not FREE. with no impact on our follow up premium.... A rare thing these days !! |
