glass treatment

Is it possible to buy aquapel for home use? It seems the only way to get this done is to go to an installer. Anyone use an acceptable alternative to RainX?

I use Turtle Wax Glass Polish which IMHO is far superior to RainX as it doesn't affect the wipers.

Cooper S BRG/B, Chili, DSC, Overheated seats, auto A/C, OBC, heated mirrors/jets, Boost + CD. delivered 24.09.02 (ordered 11.09.01). MAX tint on back 3 windows. 17" S-Lites with Dunlop summer run-flats. 16" X-Lites with Goodyear Ultra Grip run-flats for winter. Remus exhaust (LOUD !).

Do you mean RainX harms the wiper blades by causing them to wear out faster? I've used it a lot, and need to replace wiper blades twice a year. Never thought RainX was causing a problem though, just that I end up driving in rain a lot and along with high UV exposure those were the prime culprits. Actually, I thought RainX might be good for the wipers since I often don't need to use them at all with the windshield well coated. Water streaks off as fast and effectively as using the wipers. Added bonus is that bug splatter cleans off easier too.

I use AutoGlym glass polish to clean them, but use Rain-x to help a) Keep the water off and b) Make them easiet to clean next time. I also put it on the big front lights, but doubt it makes much odds!

It will wear the wipers down if you use them too often, because on the return part of the wipe the waters gone and the wiper is dragging on the glass, where as without rain-x, it tends to take the full wipe to get them clear.

It has pro's and cons if you ask me, and the pros outweigh the cons.

...

I noticed the latest bottle of Rain-x now contains a warning about using it on plastic parts (e.g. headlight lenses). I've been using Rain-x for 20 years, putting it on plastic-lensed headlights many times and this is the first time I've seen this warning. In fact, Rain-x used to recommend its use on plastic parts!

Wonder what's happening?

Thanks for the heads-up Bruce, I haven't actually read the label for years. Too bad if it's true, it really helps cleaning the bugs off the lenses too.
