Car Ramps

HI,

I have a lowered car. I need to drive it up on ramps to inspect and work on the underneath.
I can't use convetional remps as they catch and scrape.

Can anybody advise on a solution. The only thing I can find on the web is this...

A floor jack and jack stand work great for me. the added advantage for the extra work is that when I lift it, I lift it all so I have plenty of clearance everywhere and can look at the whole underneath......

I have both a floor jack and jack stands but have never quite worked out where to put the jack stands exactly. I know that you lift the car using the jacking points (obviously), but where do you safetly locate the jack stands ?

OK, here is what I do.......
I lift the car using the front jacking point to the maximum extent possible. I then place a jack stand in the front, not on the body floor but on the chassis member under the engine.
I then place a second jackstand right under the rear shock absorber, as lifting the car on the front jacking point has also lifted the rear: I lower the car on to the stands and move to the other side and do like wise. I DO look at it ever so closely during the second lifting to make sure the stands on the laready lifted side don't start getting crooked on me. It has never happened but I am weird like that.

Some day when I am bored and have found me a good friend that will weld aluminium for free (fat chance I say) I will dismount both front and rear aluminium bumper "souls" hand have a hefty piece welded smack in the middle of them dropping down to the lowest point on the body....voila, instant centered lifting jack points......saw this trick on the Nuzzo Motorsports cars in the USA, the ones that run the Grand Am Series......very slick set up!

I just bought the Rhino Ramps last week. My car with the front Aero kit clears them, but as with any ramp, they don't seem to elevate the car enough to really be able to work under there. I end up using the jack/stands 99% of the time; they would be a better investment than the ramps, even though the ramps are inexpensive. Buy the jack and stands.

DON'T JUST USE THE JACK: Use the jackstands for safety!

I've also used rhino ramps for years, they are great.

If you are using ramps or stands, remember to also get some wheel chocks. A MINI on your face is not as light as you think.
