Brake fluid change costs

Got my 4 year brake fluid change, been quoted £160 which seems a bit much.

I can see an 30 mins labour (they will do it while I wait) and £20-£30 for some fluid just seemed a little step just to have them switch off the service indicator.

Also if I get the TLC XL now will that cover this fluid change (I realise there maybe one later on that would not be covered)

My cooper was an early 02 and they changed the fluid FOC under TLC but the TLC XL covers you for up to 8 years or 80,000 for another £300.
But then the TLC should cover for up to 5 years if you have not exceeded 50,000 miles!

yeah I had my 1st fluid change under the TLC but it seems that like others the 2nd is not and they are not budging (and it does say in the small print) just want to know if I should splash out the £160 then pay for the TLC XL or just pay for the XL now and have this £160 included.

Hi, just a quick question, did they give you a breakdown of the labour/parts costs ? £160.00 sounds a lot to me, cannot see it taking more than an hour and say £30 for fluid.

yeah my thoughts exactly they didnt give a break down (in fact they had enough trouble getting a price at all lots of shouting accross the room in the background). Think I will get it done at a local garage (who can do the MOT at the same time) then get the service indicator turned off at the next service (only 4000 miles away).

£160 is just too much for that really.

Just had a look at the fluid change I had done on my porsche and that was only £80.....

The dealer really can *** off unless they can justify the price! Will challenge them tomorrow

Does that mean it is £90 to change the antifreeze?
You do know that YOU can reset the brake fluid change indicator yourself?

Thanks go to Racemier for this:

On the speedo, press reset knob and mileage is shown and keep pressed.
Switch on ignition to 1st position.
Display will show 1_Test, keep on pressing reset button till it shows 51A and mileage.
Release reset knob.
By pressing the knob briefly you will change between oil service and brake fluid.
Choose the one you want reset and keep reset knob till display shows Rst.
Release knob and press again.
Now your counter has been reset.

Hope this helps. When I had my brake fluid changed under TLC, the garage didn't even reset the counter!!!

My indicator light has come on today - when i got round to looking at the handbook i discovered what it was!

Now i checked how many days i have left till needing a change and errrrr it said zero

The first i gather ws covered under TLC so is the second covered under TLC XL or do i have to pay?

Apologies if the answer is amongst this thread already

You should have a small TLC booklet with vouchers. There was only one brake fluid change voucher in my booklet!!
