Offline | sponge or brush I love the paint on my virgin Dark Silver MCS. One of my colleagues says never use a sponge, only a brush to wash. Thoughts? |

Offline | DONT use a sponge, always use a mit, sponges hold the grit in the holes. 2 buckets of water, 1 with the shampoo (for that fly-away hair!) and one of just water for rinsing the mit, helps keep the shampoo water clean and thus you car. |

Offline | STOP! It's all irrelevant! Just make sure whatever you do, YOU RINSE THE CAR THOROUGHLY b4 you use a mit/sponge/brush/octopus. Moving dirt around never cleaned anything! |

Offline | Vehicle Washing Tools: Ironically, washing your vehicle can actually damage the paint finish because grit in the wash brush or mitt can leave scratches in the paint film surface. But with a Grit Guard™ in place at the bottom of the wash bucket, you simply rub the brush or wash mitt across the grid type surface to remove any damaging grit. This debris will settle through the grid to the bottom of the wash bucket and your brush or wash mitt remains grit free. It makes this bucket is ideal for use as the rinse bucket in a two-bucket wash system; the other bucket contains the wash concentrate solution. Sponge: Although a sponge does have micro cells they are not always large enough to contain any road dirt or grit, ( a sea sponge has the advantage of larger cells) which becomes trapped between it and the paint surface and will cause scratching. A sheepskin mitt has the advantage of long fibres that allow any road grit / dirt to stay clear of the surface; as long as they are rinsed fairly often to remove any dirt they will not cause scratching {each one / teach one][then student /becomes teacher} JonM |

Offline | A boar's-hair brush is soft enough not to scratch, and it won't trap any grit in its bristles. And you can even get them pole-mounted so you don't have to bend over so much. The only drawback is that they're very expensive. BRG/W MC -- Motoring since Oct 7 of 2002 |

Offline | Yeah but rinsing will never get all the dirt off your car If you use a sponge you will scratch you car, no matter how long you stand there with a hose. Washmitts are the best option IMO. ![]() |

| two tons of fun | I'll go with that, mitt or sponge for me, rinsing all the time after soaking the car well, and never press, use it lightly. while on this, does anyone else use the Auto Glym pack supplied in the boot, not had it before, tried the body shampoo/conditioner (unsure wether this is for greasy or dandruffed cars) and this seems ok, not sure on the rest of the gear in there...... any one else tried? ![]() |
