Wax on Plastic Trim - what shifts it?

Hi,

Any advice please - i managed to get some Mer wax on the black plastic trim and i've never been able to shift it fully. Can anybody recommend a product to really get it back to black. I've tried loads from Halfords with not much of a result.

I know Halfords probably isn't the best place to get car products from, but it's local and i can browse without looking too much of a muppet!

Peanut butter apparently. But I've used Autoglym green gloopy stuff to get wax off before with great success (and I don't use much Autoglym either, usually Megquiars for me). I think it's called bumper care or something, and you can buy it at halfords if needs must.

Remove the wax residue with peanut oil and then apply a "back to black" product.

Peanut oil - not the answer i was expecting!!

I'll buy some some when i'm out shopping tomorrow and i'll give it a go. I take it just normal grade cooking oil will do - not a specific brand?

Thanks very much for the quick response - my husband has done this as well on his car, so he'll be well pleased if this does work.

DIY Water, water and a little more...water

I always use the pressure washer on the plastic trim before washing, has always worked for getting wax off trim for me.

I'm also told that the Autoglym shampoo used neat will remove it too.

A couple of peanut oil (butter ) suggestions, but ahs anyone actually used penut oil and found it too work?
If so, I am presuming you apply with a rag, wash you car and then apply sometype of plastic / runner treatement?

Thanks

Peanut butter, peanut oil, or other vegetable oil should all work. I've personally tried a generic vegetable oil. Just wipe it on with a cloth and wipe it off with another. It dissolves and removes the wax.
