Opinions on value of extended warranty in US

I am coming up on 3 fin-filled and (relatively) trouble-free years with my 2003 MCS.
A mere 24000 miles on it.
I have read mixed opinions here on the topic of whether or not to renew the extended warranty. I doubt that I will needs brakes this year, though I suppose I should pull a wheel and measure.
I have not had any mechanical problems with the car - don't know if that's luck or what, as it seems many of you have had lots of issues.

So - one more request for opinion - extended warranty or not?
(I believe it costs about 4 or 500 USD.)

Thanks all!

One single brake service with pads and discs will run you at least that much. Should you say, blow a head gasket or have to replace an air conditioner compressor, again, at least 500 if not 1000 bucks. No brainer to me (says the man who bought a 7 year US warranty and promptly decamped to where it is not valid........)

I bought one when I got the car and as a result got the brakes covered when they otherwise would not have been. That made it worth the cost. Check the wear on your brakes perhaps, before you decide.

Glad to read this thread - this time around, I'm going to go for the extended warranty. Your points are well taken.

Well, it didn't take me long to decide that rather than pay for extended maintenance (NOW i know the diff btwn extended MAINTENANCE and extended WARRANTY), I would simply trade in my perfect S for a hopefully perfect ragtop S!
Don't have to extend the maintenance, no need to buy new tires, just think of all the money I am saving!!!!
I never had a problem with the car, other than rough cold starting, which was fixed, and since it was low mileage, probably would not have gone for it anyway.
Thank you all.

(Anyone want a gorgeous, low mileage S??? )

The trauma of trading in

Thanks AprilWhine...just how painful was it to betray your original...I absolutely LOVE my MCS, and there is no better looking car with roof on the road today. There will be times, though I hope rare, when the ragtop will be up, and at those times especially I will really miss my baby.

Is this just another example that women can never be satisfied?? I had owned a 1970 Fiat 850 Spyder, and a 1960 MGA roadster (neither fromm new - I'm dating myself - but not THAT much...)...then in 1985 I was forced to go to hard tops - been waiting THAT LONG for a ragtop, and now that I have put down the deposit, I can't help but think of what I'm losing!! If the trade-in value weren't so high, maybe I'd just keep them both!!!

Can't wait for June!!

T, at times I still feel a twinge of guilt over my pretty silk green MC. It is still my favorite color, but I just had to have the MCSC.

Since you listed some of the classic convertibles, I had a 1979 Triumph Spitfire (from new). When other MINI convertible owners try to complain to me about wind noise, I laugh and tell them to be glad it doesn't leak.

I really like my LY MCSCa, but know I will trade it in 08 or 09. It's just the evolution of cars.

True, true - after all, they're not pets... though some review I read of MINIs said that their owners consider them to be.
