How do you clean a chamois?

I've searched but found nowt, but I was wondering how do you clean a chamois? Mine is getting a bit dirty now and I'd hate to think that you would just chuck it away

Do I just clean with warm water and mild soap?

Thanks in advance

I have always used a bar of soap and agitate in a bowl of water. You will need to squeeze out the soap in clean bowls of water repeatedly until the water stops going cloudy.

Always gets my chamois cleaned up and works for both synthetic and genuine.

I used to swear by a real chamois, that was until I got an autoglym fake one, much better, soaks up more, and you can machine wash it

The only problem I have is knowing which one to drive?

Not even recommended to use chamois these days - it tends to remove any polish / wax you have applied previously.

You need a microfibre waffle weave towel, about £10 and very soft and you can dry your whole car without needing to wring it out once.

That sounds like something I bought at the weekend. It's a Meguiars drying towel (bright yellow), and it's amazing. It just soaks and soaks and soaks up the water, leaves the car really dry, brilliant. Even did about half of a second MINI too before it stopped being totally effective and I had to wring it out.

Yeah, you shouldn't be using chamois at all. No good for the paint work I'm afraid.

A sponge and a chamois are very old school now, they're also both damaging. Microfibre is the way forward for washing, polishing and waxing and a clay bar for removing embedded contaminants. Have you employed the two bucket method of cleaning yet?

Step over to http://www.detailingworld.com for a real education on how to clean a car properly.

It was acceptable in the 80's

Two buckets here too!

The sponge has been ditched in favour of a lambs wool wash mitt.

For ease of use I like the 'giant squeegie' things. Autoglym do one called a Hydra Flexi Blade but there are much cheaper identical versions around.

I too found my Meguiars microfibre drying towel a pile of *****e, although it probably needs laundering straight out of the packet. The terry towel is also quite bad, loads of lint - the microfibre from Screwfix is a hell of alot better and cheaper to boot.

I haven't used this one.

I have a Poorboy's Waffle Weave Microfibre Towel (bit of a mouthful) - think this is a different construction than the Meguiars one.

It is more towel like and has a total different feel to the Meguiars.

Found it after a search on Google - not many actual waffle weave ones about.

I am amazed just how good it really is - I used chamois before this and the difference is remarkable.

Yellow one. I won it from them for sending in a shiny photo of my freshly cleaned MINI.
