Offline | Under Warranty or not? After a service last week my BMW Dealer told me I needed new brake pads and discs all round at cost of £500!!! I know brake pads ain't covered by warranty and I bought a set of Mintex front and rear for only £50 this weekend but what about the brake discs? Are they covered? Anyone know? Cheers |

Offline | The disks probably don't need changing quite yet, all dealers play safe as the service interval are so long they need to ensure that they will last at until the next service. Only change the discs when they reach the minimum thickness(According to Mr Haynes front 20.4mm and rear 8.4mm) or are badly scored. Slap in the new pads and save yourself £500. (I very much doubt if the disc are covered on warranty) With the money you've saved buy some new discs and change them when the old ones are worn out. |

Offline | Thanks for the advice guys. Just bought Mintex brakes front and rear for £50 including shipping!!! Bargain. My local garage is going to fit them for £60 when they do my mot in two weeks. They told me that the disks were fine and didn't need changing. BMW £500 - Local "trusted" garage £110 in total. Not much choice really |

Offline | I had my front disks replaced on my Cooper @ 14.5K. The dealer initially suggested that they would not be covered under waranty, but I said that I was not happy with the disks wearing out before the pads and for them to put it to BMW. Subsequently the disks were renewed under waranty and all I had to pay for were new pads to go with them. |
