United-Kingdom Cracked convertible windscreen

Hi,
I wondered if any could help me, i have a 54 reg cooper convertible which I've had from new, which has developed a large L shaped crack which runs from the top of the windscreen which is definitely a stress crack.
When i took it to my dealer they said i should claim through my insurance however when i complained they said they could try and claim for it under warranty, i now have somebody coming to look at it next week to see if they are going to pay. The dealership said it was the first car that had this fault but reading through these forums i can hardly believe this is true .I would be really grateful if anybody Else's car has had this fault could let me know how they got on claiming under warranty as i would like to be forewarned before the meeting next week. Thanks Joe

Most insurers don't treat this as a claim affecting no claims bonus (but charge an excess)

I would have it changed asap as the screen makes up a HUGE amount of the structural integrity of a cabriolet, never mind being one of the main strength point in a roll.
For the sake of a windscreen claim I would have it done tomorrow.

aside from that, check your screen along the entire section of the crack, is there any suggestion of a stone chip ANYWHERE on the line? If there is the slightest hint that it could have been due to a stone chip you are going to be wasting your time waiting for a warranty assesor.
