Offline | Paint stripped to metal... Please help!! Hi All, First of all, this is a great forum. I'm glad I found this place that share my passion about MINI cars. I have my PW MCS for about a month, and last weekend I decided to clean the inside under the hood. I used the Black Magic 2 in 1 engine shine to remove the grimes and oil marks on the chassis since the direction on the can said it's safe to use on fender. I might have scrubbed too hard, and to my horror, the paint on the passenger side strut mount is stripped. I'm not sure if it's stripped to the metal or just to the primer. I attached pic of the mount plus some area where the stripping is less severe. I'm thinking of these options to do: 1. repaint the whole problem section which is the passenger side fender/strut mount. 2. get a touch up paint (preferably the pen/sharpie type), and hand paint the stripped part. 3. cover the stripped part with clear coat (either spray or sharpie type). I'd like to ask from your expertise/experience, which is the best option. I'm leaning toward option 2 or 3 because of cost factor. Do you guys have a recommendation where to find those stuffs? Anyone here live in LA area and could assist me with this? Also, I'd like to know if I leave those parts as it is now, will it rust later on? Thank you for your inputs. |

Offline | At least it's not the external bodywork. I don't really know the answer to your question but I'd probably go for option 2 or 3 myself since the area is normally hidden.Welcome to MINI2 ![]() Global Moderator ![]() |

Offline | Your find that what you have rubbed off is just primer. What also appears to be grease is waxoil, which is sprayed quite liberally around underneath the bonnet or hood , to stop rust. The downside of it is, is road dust, dirt etc adhere to it, so it can look unsightly, but to be honest it is best left alone. Problem you have now, is you can't really put PW onto bare metal, it will just peel off eventually. I would suggest you see if you can get hold of some white primer in a can and just apply it with a paint brush rather than a spray. Spray is going to be too messy, unless you're happy to mask off where you don't want the it to go. Alternatively you could just spray some waxoil over the bare metal bits and it would be fine, you can buy it in aerosol cans. The most I clean in the engine bay is to maybe wipe the plastic bits clean. |

| Tinkering In The Garage | you've rubbe off the paint there , what you can see under neath is the electro coat primer underneath, its a kind of yellowy brown. Don't panic as someone above has mentioned the best thing you could do is mask off the area and spray it back up. as for the scratch in the 3rd pic, a touch up stick will take care of that.Ady ![]() |
