Dealer 2-year maintenance recommendations: nonsense or necessary?

I had my MCS in at the dealer last week for some very minor maintenance.

It's only 16 months old, but the service advisor claimed that they (whether "they" constitutes BMW or that particular dealership, I failed to ask) highly recommend a 4-wheel alignment "to prevent tracking and wear tire problems", along with a flush of the power steering system at the same time.

If this sort of thing is necessary, why does he even mention it? By my way of thinking it should be part of a standard service package and not something that mentioned as an afterthought.

Am I missing something, or is this a cash grab in the way many dealerships always try to push paint & fabric protection or VIN etching on new car buyers?

Keep an eye on your tyres tread, if it wears evenly save your money as a four wheel
alignment is expensive. Don't think the dealer is just money grabbing, you'd be surprised
by the number of people who want more preventive maintenance on their cars. Sometimes
it is they who drive the dealer.

Some people are like a Slinky ........ not really good for anything, but you still can't help
but smile when you shove them down the stairs

Good advice from SteveM3. Don't waste you money unless you have a tyre wear or handling problem.

Also I'm not sure what good a full geometry check will do as the only thing that appears to be adjustable in the front toe. If something is out of spec you may be faced with replacing subframes .............

Anybody know how adjustable the suspension is ??
