How to change Brake Pads w/ pics (F only)

Hey folks, been a while since I was last on ("You last visited: Apr 17th, 2006 at 10:32 PM"). Been so busy with work etc.

Anyway, still got my DS 53reg MCS w/ 27k miles now, and the times come to change my pads. Now me being, a) tight as a ducks 4rse*watertight* and b) looking at changing the car soon - I didnt want to do front and rear, so just changed the front.

So, I got my new pads - and wanted to change them myself. Iv changed pads on cars before, but wasnt keen on working on my S (its expensive and dangerous if it goes wrong) so I did a lil search on here to try find a "How to" - but couldnt find anything of help.

I fired on anyway, got the pads in no problems, and photographed it along the way so I could maybe help others out.

I replaced them with Mintex pads (same size as original) £30.
Here we go...

Jack car, remove wheel..

Remove cap from brake fluid resovoir.

Remove spring clamp from caliper (I made the mistake of not doing this when photographing)

Remove bolts from rear of pad housing (16mm bolt x2) These are situated top and bottom of drive shaft - be careful, theyre tight.

Remove housing from discs, this allows you to remove pads. You may need to prize them open slightly with a flat screwdriver. This will also help when putting in new, thicker pads. (see spring clamp as I mentioned above.)

Remove first pad (outside one)

Turn housing over, this cable is the pad sensor. Carefully remove this (I used WD40 to loosen) There is also a spring clamp to hold this sensor in place. Keep it.

Sensor.

Pop second pad out, this is on a clip so may need persausion with screwdriver.

Now pop new pad in, make sure the clips click right in.

This is where the pad sensor pushes in.

Put second pad in.

Spring clamp back in place.

Housing back into position, and replace 2x 16mm bolts, and tighten.

Replace wheel.

And your good to go! Remember to run them in a bit.

any questions, email me - bryceone@hotmail.com

Please note:This is only advice/tips. I am in NO way responsible/liable if something goes wrong/breaks etc.

I wonder if these babies would fit. Pads are tiny in comparison!

Good work! I think more people should get their hands dirty for the easier things to do but sadly we're in that age where people just pay for things to be done. You can save so much doing most mods and things like pads yourself. I know I just got my whole brakes done(GTT Spiro slot discs all round and stage 2 pads) but then I live on a steep hill so if someone can advise on how to wind the rear calipers back in without the car running away i'm all ears....

p.s. I was about to ask how you got the caliper off without removing the spring clip just looking at how much pad was left I know now

haha yeh, down to the metal... :S

i took the spring off on first side, and tried doing it with it on second side (when taking photo's) and realised its necessary to take off when putting new ones in.
